Chris Paisley third time winner

alps-tour

Chris Paisley first shot the best score of the week, 63 to lead tie with Carlos Aguilar then he won his third title this season after holing for eagle on first extra hole…

Bookmakers wouldn’t had win lot of money with Chris Paisley. It was sure, at least almost, that the 25 year old player would win again this season. Paisley, leader at the Alps Tour ranking, has already won twice in Spain and is in the top 80 of the Challenge Tour as well. This kind of situation never happened in Alps Tour history and proved the level of Pailey’s game.

Paisley was leading 2 weeks ago in Belgium at Flory Van Donck Trophy but on the very last hole, Italian Crespi grabbed the victory. Paisley’s thing is to come back from behind. He did that kind of joke for his maiden win in Valencia. This time, Paisley was 8 strokes behind of the leader Spain’s Carlos Aguilar. During last round, many players shot low scores but Aguilar struggled a lot with his game and could not hole as many birdies as he expected. Meanwhile, Chris Paisley signed for astonishing 63, 8 under par and was the leader at the club house with -11. Aguilar just needed a birdy on the last hole to win. He holed this precious birdy during first 2 rounds but unfortunately did not on the last.

Both men went into a play-off and this time, Paisley did not check on the 18th. He holed an eagle and let no chance for anything than a happy ending English story. At third place, talented Austrian amateur, Manuel Trappel who has just won the European Amateur Championship.

The 6 players who get their exemption for first qualifying stage of European Tour Tour School are : Marco Crespi, Jason Barnes, Guillaume Cambis, Scott Henry, Jason Kelly and Ignacio Sanchez-Palencia. No tears nor cry after this ranking was completed, it is the same as before Styrian Mountain Golf-Open presented by Lyoness.

Spain's Carlos Aguilar 4 clear

alps-tour

Spain’s Carlos Aguilar took charge in Styrian Mountain Golf-Open presented by Lyoness. He signed for 65, 6 under to aggregate an eleven-under-par total. His nearest challengers, Scott Henry and Philipp Genev are no less than 4 strokes behind. England’s Jordan Gibb is fourth with -6 and France’s Xavier Poncelet one shot back. The cut is fixed at +1.

Spain’s Aguilar was not supposed to be a threat to others players, nobody did really know a lot about his game. He did not play on Alps Tour this season and focused his career on Peugeot Tour in Spain. But Carlos Aguilar proved that the level of Spanish golf fits its reputation and he did no mistake to lead with huge margin in Austria. Scotland’s Scott Henry had his maiden win last may a few kilometres from Golf Club Reiting-Gai. He won the Gösser Open and Aguilar will for sure have to keep an eye on him. But he won’t be the only danger. Great names such as Brendan McCarroll, Guillaume Cambis, Jordan Gibb or European amateur champion Austrian Manuel Trappel are in top 10 after 2 rounds and have in common to play tomorrow for maiden win.

Berni Reiter leads with opening 64

alps-tour

Austrian Bernhard “Berni” Reiter leads Styrian Mountain Golf Open with opening 64, 7 under par. He holed 3 birdies and 2 eagles to shoot this wonderful score. The 22 year old player has one stroke advantage over strong pair, France’s Xavier Poncelet and Ireland’s Brendan McCarroll.

Styrian Mountain Golf-Open has a specific taste. This is the last tournament for Alps Tour players to enter Top 6 and obtain precious exemption for the first Stage of the qualifying European tour school. And thanks to the leader of the ranking, Chris Paisley, the 7th will also get this free ticket as the Englishman is in the top 80 of the Challenge Tour as well.

France’s Xavier Poncelet could be the man to stop for his opponents. Poncelet is 9th at the Alps Tour ranking and a place on the podium this week could make him a happy man. He shot a great 65, 6 under par to share second place with Ireland’s Brendan McCarroll. Both did not drop any shot and signed for perfect round. Among those who could earn their spot to stage 2, France’s Remi Dupuis who scored 69 and Norwegian Jason Kelly 70. Italian Cristiano Terragni, 8th at the Alps Tour ranking, shot a poor 77 and desperately needs wonderful round tomorrow to make the cut.

Back-to-back win for Marco Crespi

alps-tour

Italian Marco Crespi holed for birdy on the last green to win the Floryck van Donck Trophy at Royal Latem. The battle between England’s Chris Paisley and Italian player from Monza was thrilling during last 6 holes and Crespi played his best golf and putting to stop Paisley on the road to his third win. Crespi earned one place at third on the Alps Tour ranking and Chris Paisley took back his first place. GALLERY

Chris Paisley is known to be a dreadful player and opponent. His reputation on Alps Tour is great and most of his fellows would describe his game as solid, his short game very precise and his putting accurate. Marco Crespi, 32 year old, is as well a talented player and has just won Le Fonti Open, his fourth title, end of July in Bologna, Italy.

Paisley started with one stroke advantage in the morning and turned first nine with 2 more. Crespi made one mistake on the 3rd, the only one of the day and missed a short putt to drop one shot. “Ite Missa est” that’s what spectators thought at this moment. Englishman had 3 strokes advantage but this break was not enough to stop Crespi. The Italian machine accelerated on the 10th to come closer to English device. He came to 2 strokes back. On 13th, both players drove nicely but Crespi was the best to the green. His shot landed at 40 cm of the pin. Meanwhile, Paisley had 3 meters. The margin was then only one shot. Marco Crespi came back square on 15th green. He had 4 meters to hole and his ball rolled slowly and maintained suspense and finally felt in the hole under crowd applauses. Chris Paisley was still playing well but did not succeeded in coming back. Both players were -17 teeing of the last hole.

Again, two perfects tee shots and two balls on the green. Paisley was 3 meters short of the pin and put first. Everyone was breathless while Englishman was putting… Unfortunately he missed his put and finished the hole greeted with wild applauses. Marco Crespi had more than 2 meters and holed it for back-to-back win. His joy and relief were great to see. Both men congratulated each other and first notes of Italian national anthem came from walkie-talkie…

As Marco Crespi said: “It was great. I played very well today and I just tried to stay closed to Chris. I was waiting for a mistake but he doesn’t often make some ! I putted very well and I put pressure on him as I holed some birdies where he couldn’t. But I was very nervous for the last one to win. It was a great battle”

Paisley to run for third win

alps-tour

England’s Chris Paisley is living a new experience as he has been leading for 3 days at Flory van Donck. He shot 68 today for -13 total and made his only mistake on the last hole. It is the first time he is running for victory as leader and favourite. But very closed with a total of -12, on his toes, Italian Marco Crespi signed for third 68 in a row and announced that he will try to disturb Paisley’s plan. Swiss Fredrik Svanberg scored the same to take third place. GALLERY

The weather was awful today. It rained a lot, almost all day. Despite these horrible playing conditions, many players did very well and no less than 20 of them shot under par. Belgium amateur, Julien Richelle, 20 year old, made his supporters happy. Richelle is a member of Royal Latem Golf Club and did announce he wanted to be on the podium. He scored 66 today and really did enjoy his round. He is at 7th place, 7 shots back of the lead.

“I started with 4 birdies, on the first 3 I holed 5 or 6 meters and it was a gimme on the 4th. I did not play a lot this season. I am studying economy and I had no time to practice and play. My record on this golf course is 62 but it was shorter than during the tournament.”

Italian Marco Crespi confessed that he played really bad on first nine and started to play very good from the 12thhole. “My start was bad, maybe the rain I don’t know, I don’t like playing under the rain (laugh). Then after 12th hole I hit the ball very good and I felt good. Tomorrow, I will really try to do better and the mistake of Chris on the last green made the margin thin.”

Chris Paisley did only one mistake. He missed the green on the last hole as his ball spun. His chip was 2 meters short and he didn’t save par. But from first tee to last fairway he played the way he used to when he grabbed his two wins.

“I played ten time better than during the first two rounds. 68 is the less I could do. I missed some birdies opportunities. It will be a new experience to me to play in last group. I am looking forward to live this. Marco played well on the back nine, we are going to play again together tomorrow and is should be fun.”

England’s Chris Paisley kept the lead of the field after round two at Flory Van Donck Trophy but his margin melt to one stroke with a total of -9. The weather was not as bad as announced. Players enjoyed a day without wind but had to unfold umbrellas a couple of times. Greens got softer and after 2 hours, leaderboard got more and more red thanks to birdies. The leader at the club house as morning session is completed was Marco Crespi. Italian player said as a joke that he doesn’t want to let the Englishman with no challenger.
Chris Paisley had a long day to finally holed 2 birdies on the last 3 holes and kept his lead.

“I did not play very well so I am happy I still lead. I putted well but I was far from the pins today as I missed the fairways a couple of time. I finished well with a birdy on the 7th, holed more than one meter and I hit driver on the 9th, I was closed to the green and I holed 3 meters to sign for 70.”

David Antonelli from France fired 64, a great card with no dropped shot and had a big smile at the recording area.

“I do not realize. My putter was on fire today. I holed from everywhere. More seriously, I had great days practising last week with Julien Fichot, my mental coach and with Patrice Amadieu, technical coach. We had bicycle in the morning and golf in the afternoon. I felt better with my routine as we worked well on it and I felt less under pressure during round.”

Last but not least, France’s Laurent Poncelet had the biggest come back. He had shot a poor 80 with a lack of birdy during first round. He shot 66 to make the cut, minus 6 with no bogey and said confidence came back thanks to his local caddy.

The cut is fixed at +2.

England's Chris Paisley took charge in Belgium

alps-tour

England’s Chris Paisley took charge at Flory von Donck Trophy at Gent Belgium. Paisley, two time winner in 2011 on Alps Tour, shot 65, 7 under par and kept his nearest opponent, Marco Crespi, 3 strokes behind. England’s Jordan Gibb tied third place after signing for 69 as Italian Lorenzo Magini. First Belgium player is amateur Dewi Merckx with 71. Gallery

All players suffered from the wind today which blew on the charming golf course of Royal Latem and it has been raining for 2 hours at the end of the round.

Chris Paisley took a wonderful start on Alps Tour this season by winning first two tournaments in Spain. These good results were confirmed and he had the opportunity to get invitations to play Challenge Tour. He did well there as well and is so far 76th at the ranking with only 6 events played. This week he looks forward to winning his third victory.

“I played well but nothing extraordinary. This golf course is quite easy if you stay on the fairway. I only hit my driver on par 5 and two or three time more. I putted well but obviously I am very happy with this 65.”

Italian Marco Crespi, winner 3 weeks ago in Italy said about same words. “I did not play that good but my putting was great. My win gave me more confidence and I feel good on course.”

The projected cut is +2.
