It’s time for the season ending 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final!

Modena, October 4th 2022– Welcome to the 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final! After a 17-week long season played in 6 different countries, it’s time for the season ending event. To participate in the sought-after final players, whether professional or amateur, must have participated in at least 5 events in 3 different countries. The first 50 professional players along with ranked amateurs in the ‘Top 50’ are eligible to compete. To compete, besides being placed in the ‘Top 50’, the ranked amateurs must be Alps Tour members. The top 5 players in the Order of Merit rank at the end of this week’s event will earn a Challenge Tour card for the 2023 season.

Gregorio De Leo, current Order of Merit leader has already secured himself one the of five Challenge Tourcards that is up for grabs at this week’s event. Tom Vaillant (am) is 2nd with 30,340.19 points and Julien Sale who will be playing his second event as a professional is in 3rd place with 30,197.50 points.

The 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final will be played at Modena Golf and Country Club in Modena, Italy from October 6th until October 8th. On Wednesday October 5th, the traditional best ball aggregate to par pro-am will take place with approximately 26 teams.

The Field-

It’s the last event of the season and the best ranked players will be competing for the 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final trophy as well as attempt to earn one of the five coveted 2023 Challenge Tour, category 12 cards that will be assigned to the top 5 ranked players in the Order of Merit at the end of this week’s event.

All of this season’s previous winners except for Markus Brier, winner of the 30th Gösser Open and Ben Schmidt, winner of last week’s 2022 Castelconturbia Alps Open will be competing.

This week the players are competing for a prize fund of €50,000 and 60,000 points. The winner of the 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final will earn € 10,000 and 9,500 Order of Merit points.

The format of the tournament is a 54 holes stroke play, 18 holes a day with no cut. In case of a tie for 1st place at the conclusion of the 54 holes, there will be a sudden-death play-off to determine the winner of the 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final.

The tournament defending champion is Spain’s Victor Garcia Broto who won the event in 2021 with a three-day score of 13 under-par.

The Course-

Modena Golf & Country Club, host of this week’s event, is a 6423 par 72 course. It was designed by German professional golfer and 2-times Masters Champion, Bernhard Langer alongside American architect, Jim Engh. Modena Golf & Country Club has hosted prestigious national and international junior events. It has also hosted the 2021 Alps Tour Grand Final as well as the Italian Open in 1993 that was won by Australian golfer Greg Turner with a score of -21.

Modena Golf & Country Club is home to 27 holes of golf, an 18 holes course as well as a 9 holes par three course. The 18 holes championship course has numerous water hazards, relatively large greens and some fairway slopes all within the relatively flat Modenese terrain. The course is outlined among oak and maple trees as well as evergreen shrubs.

According to Peugeot Golf Guide, the 18th hole “daring may be rewarded or simply ruin your card.” It will be interesting to see which strategy will be rewarded on both the par 5, 568 meters 13th hole as well as the par 5, 18th hole.
