Round 1 is suspended for the day at the 31st Gösser Open

Maria Lankowitz, May 11th 2023– The players competing at the 2023 Gösser Open who teed off in the morning wave for the first round had to face tough conditions with a constant heavy rain fall and cold temperatures. Play began at 7:30 am from both the 1st and 10th hole.

At 11:58am play was suspended due to some greens being flooded. At the 2:00pm update, Tournament Director Alessandro Pia decided due to the continuous heavy rain fall and the weather forecast to suspend play for the remainder of the day.

The 1st round of the 31st Gösser Open will resume tomorrow, May 12th at 8:30 am and the 1st round afternoon wave tee times will begin at 9am. Round 2 is expected to begin at approximately 3:00pm tomorrow afternoon.

Only the 1st group out that teed off at 7:30 am from the 1st hole which included Agustin Bardas from Italy, Austrian Simon Austin (am) and France’s Romain Guillon were able to conclude their 1st round.

In the current Round 1 Leaderboard, Italy’s Gianmaria Rean Trinchero leads with a 4 under-par after 9 holes. Only 1 back tied for 2nd place at 3 under-par Paul MurphyAugustin HoleRiccardo BregoliMatthieu Caron and Timon Baltl who all 5 players are midway through their back nine.

The players filling up the field this week represent a wide array of golfing generations with the youngest player just 13 years old and the oldest 59 years old.

The 144 players are competing for an overall prize fund of €40.000 and 45,000 Order of Merit points. The winner will earn €5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.
