Wallace heading to last round in pole position
England’s Matt Wallace shot flawless round 65, -6 to lead the Open Frassanelle with -11 total. Italy’s Corrado De Stefani holed two birdies on the last three holes to stay one shot away. Spain’s David Morago is two shots back.
Wallace teed off from the 10th and turned his first nine holes -2 thanks to birdies on hole number 13 and 15. But on back nine, he dug his advantage with first, one shot gained on the par 5 second and a hat trick of birdies from the 6th.
“Yes feeling really good about my game. I worked hard last week preparing for open q but it wasn’t meant to be on the links course. Over the weekend I had never hit so many balls in my life because after playing in Sweden and Austria it has given me the motivation to want to play on the European Tour every week.
I’m looking forward to tomorrow to see if I can once again go wire to wire. It will be hard but I’m up for the challenge. It’s great to be back playing on the alps tour. The course, food, organisation and the Italian people are great. It makes it even more exciting.”
De Stefani signed for 64, lowest score today, to let only one shot advantage to multiple winner Wallace. The Italian player had the perfect round without any bogeys and if he keeps on playing this way, he might be a real threat to the leader.
Spain’s David Morago, fired best score tie of the day 64. The 22 year old player from Barcelona had eight birdies versus only one bogey today. Morago’s best result this season is a runner up place in Guadalupe where he was defeated by France’s Léo Lespinasse during the play-off.
A group of 3 players including overnight leader France’s Victor Perez, Enrico Di Nitto and Federico Maccario from Italy are -8 total. The cut felt at -1 including 44 players.

Highlights of the first round of the 2015 Citadelle Trophy International at Golf de Preisch. Italy’s Corrado de Stefani is leading w/-5, followed by England’s Joh Loughrey and 4 players at -3.

Red hot start for De Stefani

Corrado De Stefani of Italy holed no less than 8 birdies in Preisch Golf Course to sign for 67, -5 and took a one stroke lead over England’s Josh Loughrey.
It was a windy opening round of Citadelle International Trophy and only 20 players out of 126 managed to break par on long 6456 meter course. De Stefani had a 7th place last week, his best result tie when he recorded this position in Egypt beginning of the year. One shot back, Loughrey, winner in Tunisia in May, signed for flawless card with 4 birdies.
A group of 4 very different players is -3. France’s Alan Bihan, former Challenge Tour player, who had his best Alps Tour season in 2010, Tim Gornik from Slovenia, who won the Alps tour Q School last December to enter the pro golf world, Jason Kelly from Norway, excellent player but excellent business as well and last not not least, Italy’s Andrea Maestroni, 2004 Alps Tour winner and former European Tour player, back on the best form this season as he won once and is currently in the top 5 of the Alps Tour ranking.
The projected cut is +1 after one round.

Marguery and De Stefani with narrow advantage

France’s Raphaël Marguery and Italy’s Corrado De Stefani share Dreamland Pyramids Open going into the final round. With a total of -6, they have a narrow advantage over Julien Foret and big hitter England’s Andrew Cooley.
Marguery played in the morning session in perfect conditions compare to the first round when he had to deal with the wind.
“ At the beginning of the round, my long game was not accurate but I putted really well. I hit my driver a little bit on the left or the right then my second shots were about the same but right away, good result on the greens. I holed 9 meters to start, then I did well on the following par 5. I mad a silly bogey on the 18th, my tenth of the day. I three putted it. But I holed about 10 meters on the first to come back.”
“Two weeks ago, I tried to understand what was wrong, but it did not bring some results so today, I decided not to analyse and to play with what I have. Today, the course was a bit simpler without the wind and I had good feelings on the four last holes so it is nice.”
De Stefani, who turned 22 last Sunday, had a very face when he was asked about his feelings. The young man is playing his second year on the Alps Tour and his best result so far is a 17th place.
“It has been obviously a nice day. This course suit me very well as I am playing very well from the tee and if you can hit some fairways here, lot of the work is done. And in addition my irons were ok and my putting very good so that is how it worked out.
I am looking forward for tomorrow. It is the first time for me to be in this side of the leaderboard and hopefully it will be a good experience.”
