Egypt, February 28th 2023 – Quim Vidal wins the 2023 Red Sea Little Venice Open with a birdie on the 3rdhole of sudden-death playoff. Netherland’s Lars Keunen, Spain’s Quim Vidal, Egypt’s Issa Abou El Ela (am), and Netherland’s Davey Porsius all concluded their final round at Sokhna Golf Club tied for the lead, therefore taking part in the four-way sudden-death playoff thanks to their three-day score of 14 under-par. In 5th place, 3 shots back at 11 under-par, defending champion, France’s Oihan Guillamoundeguy.

After today’s final round, Alps Tour President, Mr. Marco Durante commented: “I’m very proud that the Alps Tour keeps growing, giving more possibilities to young talented golfers from all over the world a chance to compete and try to reach the next level of professional golf.”  Since 2001, the tour has expanded, visiting more countries also across the Mediterranean Sea, allowing more players the opportunity to compete.

Final Round Player Quotes –
Quim Vidal captures his first professional win at the 2023 Red Sea Little Venice Open after 3 holes of a sudden-death play-off with a 5-meter putt. Quim shot a 4 under-par 68 during today’s final round with 2 bogeys and 6 birdies for a three-day total at 14 under-par which tied him in the lead alongside 3 other players. When he completed the play-off, he was delighted even though he didn’t “hit the ball my best today but the short game was really nice. I had a rough start but then I made 2 birdies making some nice putts that gave me confidence and that was able to put me on top of the leaderboard. Even if it wasn’t my best day I was making the putts and staying patient because I knew birdies would come.” He went on to express his joy about capturing his first professional win by saying, “this win feels really nice, I have a lot of confidence heading into the rest of the season and I’m really looking forward to it. This is my first professional win and couldn’t dedicate it to anyone else other than my team, my family and my friends that support me every day.”Davey Porsius from the Netherlands shot a final round of 3 under-par with 4 birdies and 1 bogey to conclude the tournament tied for the lead at 14 under-par. He is a previous winner on the Alps Tour winning the 2022 Hauts de France- Pas de Calais Golf Open. After his round, Davey commented on how well he played today but couldn’t “make any putts. I chipped in on 14, which was nice to give me the necessary birdie to share the lead. I got a bad break on 17 with my iron shot into the green and missed the putt.”  When asked about the playoff, he commented: “I, unfortunately, lost the playoff to a well-holed putt from 4 or 5 meters from Quim Vidal. I tried to stay steady throughout the entire round and the playoff but couldn’t hole putts at all.”

Egyptian amateur Issa Abou El Ela who represents Alexandria Sporting Club was one of the four players who took part in the sudden-death playoff at 14 under-par. He was on top of the leaderboard for the first two rounds and his performance continued with a 3 under-par, 69 in today’s final round. After concluding his final round, he had mixed emotions: “I’m very disappointed I couldn’t get the win here in my home country. However, it was a fun day with Davey. We kept matching each other with birdies. Going up 17 I was able to make a clutch birdie; however, I knew the guys in front had chances, and Davey also did, so I tried to stay in the moment.” He went on to add, “it meant a lot to me to see so many people around the greens just clapping and being there for me. They’ve seen the struggles, and for me to have a chance to win here and give back to them would have been incredible.” He was pleased about his game: “It’s a step in the right direction; these players are all tour pros and playing at an excellent level, so for me to match them, I’m delighted. Hopefully, I will have another chance in the future. I would love to be able to play more Alps Tour events.”

Netherland’s Lars Keunen, shot a 6 under round 66 today with 2 bogeys and 8 birdies to be the 4th player tied for the lead at 14 under-par. He had a strong finish today, with 6 of the birdies occurring on the back nine, which allowed him to gain a spot into the playoff for the title.

Defending champion, 18 years old France’s Oihan Guillamoundeguy shot the low round of the day in the final round today with a 7 under-par, 65. He concludes his tournament with a three-day total of 11 under-par and in 5th place. Oihan won this event last year as an amateur at 17 years old and now competes as a professional since he changed his playing status at the beginning of December 2022. He began his round with an eagle on the 3rd hole and then 6 birdies until a bogey on the last hole.

The Alps Tour Order of Merit rank after the first two events of the season has Quim Vidal leading and Jack Floydd and Davey Porsius to close out the top three spots. In 4th place, Andrea Romano and in 5th place Cristiano Terragni.

Round 1 Player Quotes –

England’s Jack Floydd who represents Haywards Heath Golf Club leads by 1 stroke at the conclusion of the 1st round at the 2023 Ein Bay Open. He shot a 7 under-par 65 round today with 3 birdies on the front nine holes and 1 bogey and 5 birdies on the back nine. Jack is 26 years old and turned pro in 2020. After his round, Jack commented: “I played very solid today. My game was great off the tee and gave myself a decent chance for birdie on the majority of the holes.”  During the back nine, he made 4 birdies in a row from holes 14 until 17, when asked if anything different happened he added: “I had chances on the front nine but didn’t start converting until the back nine. It definitely helped that 2 birdie putts were from about 1 foot. However, I did make a long one as well.” Jack currently: “feels in control of my swing and my ball flight. I also had relatively good pace on the greens today which helped. I’ve been working hard with my coaches over the winter and I feel very confident with my game heading into the season.”

Ireland’s Ronan Mullarney, concluded his first round with a 6 under-par, 66 and is in 2nd place only 1 stroke back. He began his round on the 10th hole today and had a strong start making 5 birdies on his front nine and then made 3 birdies and 2 bogeys on his back nine. He begins his first full season on the Alps Tour wanting to gain stability. Ronan turned professional in 2019 and competed in the 2022 Open Championship. After his round, he was pleased with how “how I played today. The wind picked up on my back 9, the course front nine which made it a bit trickier but I practiced hard over the winter so I was ready. My wedge game was very sharp today which helped me put together the round.”

One of the seven players tied for 3rd place at 5 under-par is Italian amateur Flavio Michetti who represents Marco Simone Golf Club. In today’s round, he made 2 birdies and 5 birdies on the front nine and 2 birdies on the back. After he completed his first round, Flavio commented: “I played very solid today. I had a strong start with a birdie on the 1st hole and the 4th hole and that allowed me to be confident in my game for the remainder of the round. Today I putted very very well, I made 28 putts today hitting 17 greens. I believe that being able to putt well on these greens it gives you a big advantage.” When asked about the course he went on to add: “The course is in very good conditions, the greens are very good and the ball rolls well.”

Tied for 3rd place alongside Flavio Michetti at 5 under-par and 2 shots back of the lead, there is Spain’s Jorge Maicas, Netherland’s Davey Porsius, Spain’s Alvaro Hernandez Cabezuela, Italy’s Cristiano Terragni and Enrico Di Nitto and Swiss’s Luca Galliano.

15th July 2022 | Alps Tour Golf

Lars Keunen maintains his lead after 2 rounds at the 2022 Fred.Olsen Alps de La Gomera.

La Gomera, July 15th 2022- First round leader, Netherland’s Lars Keunen maintains his lead following the second round of the 2022 Fred.Olsen Alps de La Gomera. He has a two-day total of 13 under-par. In a tie for 2nd place at 10 under-par only 3 shots back, three of this season previous winners: Koen Kouwenaar, Stefano Mazzoli and Tom Vaillant (am).  In a tie for 5th place, Netherland’s Vince Van Veen.

It was another gorgeous day at La Gomera, the second-smallest main island of the Canary Islands, host of the 2022 Fred.Olsen Alps de La Gomera. The tournament played at the beautiful Tecina Golf began at 8:30 this morning under sunny skies. The scoring conditions were more favorable in the morning thanks to the slight breeze while in the afternoon, the conditions were more complicated due to a stronger persistent wind.

Round 2 Player Quotes-

First round leader, Netherland’s Lars Keunen maintains a 3 strokes lead heading into the final round of the tournament. He shot a 5 under-par,66 today for a two-day total of 13 under-par. His round toady included 4 birdies, 1 eagle and 1 bogey. After his round, Lars commented that his game “was pretty similar to yesterday, I unfortunately holed a few less putts. Today was definitely windier so it was slightly trickier. Tomorrow I will approach it like any other round, knowing that I have some good players only a few shots behind so I will definitely have to go low.” When asked what a win would mean to him, being 16th in the rankings, Lars responded “a win would be really great, I definitely need it but if it doesn’t happen tomorrow I know it will happen at some point but at least I’ll be able to move up in the ranking.”

Koen Kouwenaar, winner of the 2022 Molinetto Alps Open, is in a three-way tie for 2nd place at 10 under-par heading into tomorrow’s round. He shot the lowest round of the day with a fantastic 8 under-par 63. Being a past winner and currently 4th in the Order of Merit, he would like to add another title to his record which would move him up in the rankings securing him a spot for next year’s Challenge Tour. During today’s round, he made 6 birdies and 1 bogey on the front nine and 2 birdies, 1 eagle and a bogey on the back nine. After his round Koen commented on how today “there was definitely less wind than yesterday and from the afternoon, however the wind today was the opposite direction compared to yesterday. For example, today on the par 5,3rd yesterday I easily reached it in 2 and today I wasn’t able to reach it. Today the pins were slightly easier today compared to yesterday. There were some tricky ones for sure.” He also said that “My putter was very hot today especially on the back nine where on 15,16 and 17 I holed some nice long putts. I’m very happy with my -8 for today especially the way I stand. My game has improved a lot in the past few weeks as I’m avoiding a lot of big misses. On this golf course, distance control from the rough is very hard so I’m glad to be in the fairway for most of the day.” When asked about his strategy for tomorrow, Koen explained: “tomorrow I just want to be objective in the way I play, just do my thing. Don’t get distracted and be mentally very flat and not influenced by how my score is evolving throughout the round.”

Italy’s Stefano Mazzoli, who won the first event of the season, the 2022 Ein Bay Open is the second player tied for 2ndplace at 10 under-par. He shot 31 on the front nine and 34 on the back nine for a 6 under-par, 65 today. After his round, he explained that he played “well both days so far. I struggled both day scoring on the back nine even if I’m played really well. On the front nine my game was very solid both days. I missed some yardages on the back due to the wind. Tomorrow I need to take advantage of the short holes and the par 5 on the front nine. Also it’s important to maintain the ball in the fairway as distance control from the rough is tricky on this course.”

French amateur, Tom Vaillant two-time winner this season, and 2nd in the current ranking is looking to add a third title to his season. He is the third player who is tied with a two-day total of 10 under-par heading into the final round tomorrow. Tom made 8 birdies and 1 bogey during his second round. At the conclusion of his 7 under-par round, he mentioned “my game is great, I’m feeling really good and I think this course is a very good fit for me. Today was definitely windier for me compared to yesterday. Tomorrow I will approach the course with the same strategy than the past two days and we will see what happens.” He also added that his plan to change his playing status from amateur to professional should occur at the end of this year.

In 5th place at 9 under-par, Netherland’s Vince Van Veen. There is a 6-way tie for 6th place just one stroke back that includes: Gary Hurley, Davey Porsius and Julien Sale (am).

Final Round-

The final round of the 2022 Fred.Olsen Alps de La Gomera, will begin at 8:30 am from hole 1 and hole 12.

A total of 49 players made the cut which was set at even par (142). The leaders will tee off at 9:47 am from the 1st hole. The winner of the 2022 Fred.Olsen Alps de la Gomera, will earn the winner’s check of €5,800 and 6,525 very important Order of Merit points.

In 2nd place just one stroke back: Italy’s Gregorio De Leo. There was a three-way tie for 3rd place at 2 under-par which included: Manfredi Manica, Julien Sale (am) and Andrea Saracino. In 6th place with a score of 1 under-par, Franck Daux. Tom Vaillant, remains the current Alps Tour Order of Merit leader.

The final round of the 2022 Hauts de France- Pas de Calais Golf Open co-sanctioned event began at 6:30 am from the 1st hole with alternating tee times between the LETAS and Alps Tour players. When the first groups teed off, it was a warmer morning compared to the last 2 days with an overcast sky and a light breeze, nevertheless soon after the sun peaked through which led to a beautiful but again windy day for the final round.

The 2022 Hauts de France – Pas de Calais Golf Open was a great success and the tournament promoter has agreed to renew the tournament with the same format for the 2023 season. The format for the 2023 season will once more include players from the Alps Tour and LET Access Series competing together yet for two separate prize funds and trophies.

Final Round Players Quotes-

Netherland’s Davey Porsius wins the 2022 Hauts de France- Pas de Calais Golf Open by 1 shot. He shot a final round of 1 under-par that included 4 birdies, 1 bogey and a double bogey. He has been close to capture his first win numerous times this season but was never able to close out. His golf game proved to be in great shape and his mindset helped him capture the win. After his round, Davey was satisfied to comment: “It means a lot, last week I had a 4 strokes lead into the final round and completely blew it. So, I talked to my coach to figure out what happened and how to improve going forward. I talked to him yesterday and I told him I’m not going to try and win but just wanted to put together a good round and see what that brings. Therefor not trying to win actually helped me win.” This week has most likely been one of the hardest weeks on tour this season due to the difficult scoring conditions and tough course layout. Davey continued to explain: “I always like playing the more difficult courses, the birdies on this golf course aren’t easy so I’m happy to have been able to win here my first event on a tough course. That makes me think and shows me I’m hitting the ball well and putting well also.” When asked about his schedule for the upcoming events, he said: “I’m going to stick to my plan, take a week off next week, see my coach and then get back to playing all of the events with hopefully more wins.”

One of this seasons past winners, Italy’s Gregorio De Leo who won the 2022 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni was tied for 2nd at the end of round 2, and shot a final round of 1 under-par to conclude the tournament in 2nd place. With a three-day score of 3 under-par, he commented: “Today was a tough round, the wind was strong again and the pins were tough. This has been one of the hardest courses so far this season and I was able to only make one bogey today and I’m happy. The scores this week showed how tough the course was. I’m happy overall. Finishing 2nd even if it was by 1 shot it is always a good result going forward.”

In a 3-way tie for 3rd place at 2 under-par: Italy’s Manfredi Manica, French amateur Julien Sale and Italy’s Andrea Saracino. In 6th place at 1 under-par France’s Franck Daux.

Only 5 players were able to shot an under par final round, resulting in 6 players concluding the tournament with an under-par score.

LETAS-

On the women’s side of the tournament, New Zealand’s Momoka Kobori kept her lead throughout the final round to clinch her second win on the LET Access Series. She carded three-under 70 shots today to win by four strokes. Dutch Amateur Lauren Holmey finished tied for second at -4 with Spain’s Noemi Jimenez Martin. Noemi Jimenez Martinshot an incredible 7 under-par in her final round today to have the course record but unfortunately it was an unofficial course record due to the preferred lies conditions the players had this week.

Final Round-

Davey Porsius winner of the 2022 Hauts de France- Pas de Calais Golf Open co-sanctioned event, earned 6,525 Order of Merit points and the winning check of €6,400.

1st July 2022 | Alps Tour Golf

Andrea Saracino and Davey Porsius co-lead after two rounds at the 2022 Hauts de France- Pas de Calais Golf Open mixed event.

St.Omer, July 1st 2022– Italy’s Andrea Saracino and Netherland’s Davey Porsius co-lead at 3 under-par after 2 rounds at the 2022 Hauts de France- Pas de Calais Golf Open co-sanctioned event. There is a 5-way tie for 3rd place at 2 under-par that include: Julien Sale (amateur), Gregorio De Leo, Vince Van Veen, Edouard Espana and Manfredi Manica. A two-way tie at 1 under-par include: Alexandre Daydou and amateur Theo Boulet.

When the first few groups teed off this morning, the weather conditions the players had to face were pleasant compared to yesterday’s round, however things changed soon after that. Midway through the morning, a swirling wind picked up with gusts reaching 50km/h that lasted throughout the entire day. Today only 11 players were able to score under-par. Play began at 7:30 this morning from both the 1st and 10th hole.

The 2022 Hauts de France – Pas de Calais Golf Open is a mixed tournament between players from the Alps Tour and LET Access Series. The players are competing for two different dedicated prize funds and trophies. The Alps Tour players are playing the golf course as a 6182 meters par 71 and the LETAS players are playing the golf course as a 5287 meters par 73.

Second Round Players Quotes-

Italy’s Andrea Saracino who was in a tie for 2nd place yesterday, shot a 1 under-par round for a two-day total of 3 under-par, co-leading at the conclusion of round two. After signing one of the few under par rounds of the day, Saracino was rationalized that:“Today I played really well, I actually played better than yesterday but unfortunately my putter didn’t help me and 3 putted twice from short range. My long game is really good, I hope tomorrow there will be less wind. This course is already very difficult in good conditions so the wind we have today it made it even harder. I’m very positive about tomorrow for another good round because my game has been very good.” He expects the “winning score be at 7 under-par especially if the weather conditions will be like today with the very strong wind. Obviously, I would like to be on top tomorrow afternoon with the 7 under-par winning score.”

Netherland’s Davey Porsius shot an amazing bogey-free round in tough conditions to co-lead entering the final round. His round included 1 birdie and an eagle on his finishing hole for a two-day total of 3 under-par.  Porsius has been playing well lately and is looking to finally breakthrough with his first Alps Tour victory. After his bogey-free round, he was very satisfied and commented:“I was expecting some wind but definitely not this much wind. I struck the ball very well. It’s not easy on these fairways and greens. I kept it in play and rolled in a lot of putts today. Hopefully I’ll get it done tomorrow after some rest and practice now.” Porsius had some previous experience on this course, having played here as an amateur in the past: “I played this course 7 years ago as an amateur on a work trip and I remembered this course being very sloppy and tough and my memory was right. This course though is very enjoyable, if you hit good shots you will get rewarded and so far this week I’m enjoying it a lot.”

In a 5-way tie for 3rd place at 2 under-par: France’s Julien Sale (am), Italy’s Gregorio De Leo, Netherland’s Vince Van Veen, France’s Edouard Espana and Italy’s Manfredi Manica. A two-way tie at 1 under-par include: France’s Alexandre Daydou and amateur Theo Boulet.

It was another beautiful summer day with a pleasant temperature that welcomed the players at Isla Canela Golf Club, Valle Guadiana Links course near Ayamonte, Spain. Play began at 8:15 am from both the 1st and 10th hole. The scoring conditions were again more favorable for the players in the morning due to calmer wind conditions compared to the strong persistent wind that picked up in the afternoon.

Round 2 Player Quotes-

Netherland’s Davey Porsius is co-leading at 13 under-par after an amazing 8 under-par round today. Porsius had a few setbacks in his amateur career, however things changed in 2018 when he won the Twente Cup which allowed him to play in the KLM Open and then managed to qualified for the Alps Tour. He is still looking for his first win on the tour and hopes this week might be his lucky on. After his round, Porsius commented on how the golf course played completely different today: “It felt like a completely different course today compared to yesterday. Today it was just a slight wind from the opposite direction to what I played with yesterday afternoon. I’m hitting very good irons shots and with the wind changes it definitely helped me stay in control of my game.” Heading into the final round today, he has one goal in mind: “I obviously want to win, I need the points to get closer to the top 5. If I can keep hitting my irons like I did the last two days I know I can have a good shot at the win.”

Irishman, Gary Hurley shot a bogey-free 8 under-par in round 2 and co-leads at 13 under-par. He had a very successful amateur career before turning professional. He finished runner-up in the 2015 Spanish Amateur Championship and 2015 European Championship, as well as guiding Great Britain and Ireland to victory at the 2015 Walker Cup. Hurley has had a couple of top 10 finishes this season and his looking to breakthrough with a win. After his round today, he commented about the course conditions: “The course conditions were different today, the wind was completely different, and it switched back to yesterday’s wind when I had a few holes left. Obviously playing in the morning, I had less wind, yesterday was very windy during my round. I’ve been playing very steady the past 2 days. I’m happy with my execution of some of my shots so it’s a good two days.” When asked about his approach into tomorrow’s final round, Hurley explained: “I’m not going to do anything much different tomorrow than the past two days. I’m in a very good space and I’m looking forward to testing myself tomorrow. I’m excited to see what tomorrow brings, good or bad, I’m looking forward to it. There will be a lot to take away.”

23rd February 2022 | Alps Tour Golf

Ein Bay Open 2022 – 5 way-tie at Sokhna Golf Club after second round

February 23, Egypt, 2022 – It was another lovely day along the shores of Gulf of Suez.

The course, after yesterday’s heat and light winds, got a little bit dryer and harder. The 120 partecipants had to re-adapt their game to make the cut.

Co-leading the field, with a brilliant -10, Italians Gregorio De Leo (68) and Stefano Mazzoli (65), Frenchman Pierre Pineau (69), Englishman Jack Floydd (68), Dutch Davey Porsius (64) .

In particular, Davey Porsius and Stefano Mazzoli scored an impressive round today which took them to the top of the leaderboard. The Dutchman, 26 years old, who was in 35th place after the first day, scored a fabulous 64 (-8) while Mazzoli, 25, scored a bogey free round with 5 birdies and 1 eagle.

Some great results also came from the amateurs. The French Julien Sale and the two compatriots Martin Couvra (the winner of the 2022 Qualifying School) and Tom Vaillant are just three shots behind the leaders tied with a total score of -7. The other amateurs who made the cut are the Italian Flavio Michetti and the French Oihan Guillamoundeguy currently in 26th and in 40th place respectively.

Among the 53 players who made the cut at -1, 10 nationalities are represented: 16 Italians, 13 French, 8 Spanish, 4 Irish, 3 English, 2 Dutch,  2 Austrians, 2 Portuguese, 1 from Switzerland and 1 from South Africa.

Today the course was bit easier than yesterday: 421 birdies (13 more than yesterday) 1293 par (9 more than yesterday) and 328 bogeys (26 less than yesterday).

“Even if I’m struggling a little bit with my driver off the teesaid Porsius – I hit a lot of good shots with my wedges and this gave me the chances to nail a lot of putters. Fortunately I had a couple of good bounces with my tee shots and if you’re near the fairway you have plenty of possibilities to attack the course. I was a little frustrated the first holes because I three-putted twice but then on the back nine I holed almost everything”.

“Conditions were basically the same as yesterday. Unfortunately on the first day I ended up loosing 3 shots on the greens and today on the front nine I had the same feeling. From the 10th hole, however, my game changed and I managed to hole an eagle and many birdies” said Mazzoli.

Jack Floydd, 25, who was tied at the second place after day 1, said: “It was pretty a solid day for me today. I played very well on the front nine. I converted earlier some birdies but I missed a couple of putters on the back nine which were a bit tougher. I had a good pace on the green which are in perfect conditions. We’re very lucky to be able to play in such a course”. Today he scored a solid 68 (5 birdies-1 bogey).

“I had a tough start because I had to save 4 important par and I got a bogey on the fourth. When I holed a very difficult putt downhill on 6th hole my round suddenly changed and I had a good pace on the green for the rest of the day. I really enjoy this kind of golf course even if I don’t have the real opportunity to prepare myself to this game. The course is in great shape” said Gregorio De Leo, 21, at his second appearance at the Ein Bay Open.

I missed few birdies opportunities today but I had a solid start. I’m very happy with my long game today, just need a few more putts tomorrow. I hit an incredible hybrid shot on 8th from west area to 3 feet for eagle”, is Pierre Pineau‘s quote.

The 2022 Ein Bay Open enjoys the support of Sokhna Golf Club, Ein Bay, Hassan Allam Properties, TPC – Touristic Promotion Company, Jaz Hotel Little Venice.
