Mr. 59, Gregorio De Leo wins the 8th Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon.

Como, May 27th, 2022 –Italy’s Gregorio De Leo, had an outstanding final round at 11 under-par, 59 to celebrate his victory as a professional player. His round included 11 birdies, 1 eagle and 2 bogeys. He birdied the 7th hole, eagled the 8th hole and then went on an 8 holes birdies stretch from hole 9 until hole 16. De Leo won the 8th Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon by four shots over France’s Pierre Pineau.  In a tied for 3rd place, at 13 under-par: Italy’s Davide Buchi and Giacomo Fortini.

The Final Round of the 8th Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon began at 8:15 am from hole 1 and 10. The final group that included, the tournament co-leaders Italy’s Marco Archetti, Netherland’s Davey Porsius alongside Spain’s Joel Moscatel who was just one shot back, teed off at 9:32 am from the 1st hole. A warm spring day with optimal scoring conditions hosted the players for the final round.

Winner Quotes-

Gregorio De Leo, had the best round of the tournament, with an incredible score of 59, 11 under-par. In today’s round he had 2 bogeys, 1 eagle on the 8th hole and 11 birdies.  When he concluded his round, De Leo was extremely happy. He is an experienced Alps Tour player having competed numerous times as an amateur, however he turned professional just before the 2021 Italian Open and this is his first full playing season as a pro golfer on the Alps Tour. De Leo had a very solid amateur career and a very positive start to his career as a professional golfer.  After his round, he proudly celebrated and commented on how special today was: “Today was very special, it was an incredible day. My putter was working perfectly. I unfortunately 3 putted the 6th hole and then from the on, something truly magical happened. I wish I wouldn’t have done the 3-putt on the 18th hole however looking back especially in that moment, I accept it.” When asked if he realized what it means to be one of the few players in the world to have broken the 60s, De Leo commented: “I don’t think I realize yet that I broke 60, it will happen soon I’m sure. Right now, I’m just very happy to have won my first tournament since turning professional and especially being so close to home and having my dad here watching me.” He wants to dedicate this victory to his coach, Alain and to his parents having: “supported me and sacrificed a lot for me. They deserve it.”  He has had a very strong start to his season so far and today’s 59 will definitely be a highlight of his career.

France’s Pierre Pineau, who finished in 2nd place, had a final round, 6 under-par 66 for a total 14 under-par for this tournament.

Davide Buchi and Giacomo Fortini from Italy, finished this tournament in a tied for 3rd place, at 13 under-par.

There was a three-way tied for 5th place at 12 under-par that included, Julien Sale, Tom Vaillant and Floris De Haas.

Koen Kouwenaar, remains the current Alps Tour Order of Merit leader even having not competed this week as he is currently competing in the DP World Tour Dutch Open. Gregorio De Leo is now the second ranked player with a 1,142.64 points advantage over Stefano Mazzoli which has now become, the third ranked player.

Final Round-

By winning the 8th Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon, Italy’s Gregorio De Leo, earned € 5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.

The Alps Tour heads to France for the 10th event of the season. The event will be played from June 10th until June 12th at Golf de La Grange aux Ormes in Metz, France for the 2022 Open de la Mirabelle d’Or. The tournament defending champion is France’s Franck Medale.

Como, May 26th 2022- The players found different conditions this morning compared to the start of Round 1. A beautiful morning with a slight breeze and comfortable spring temperature, welcomed the competitors for Round 2 at the 8th Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon. The tournament is currently being played at Golf Club La Pinetina near Como, Italy. Play began at 7:30 am from both the 1st and 10th hole.

When Round 2 finished, Italy’s Marco Archetti and Netherland’s Davey Porsius lead the field at 11 under-par. Just one shot back, at 10 under-par, round 1 leaders, Joel Moscatel Nachshon and Floris De Haas are placed. There are 6 players tied for 5th place at 8 under-par: Giacomo Fortini, Pierre Pineau, Luca Galliano, Davide Buchi, Jonathan Yates and Tom Vaillant.

Round 2 Player Quotes-

Marco Archetti, who finished yesterday’s round just one shot back of the lead, is co-leading at 11 under-par entering the final round. His round today, included 1 eagle, 4 birdies and a single bogey for a 5 under-par round, 65. Archetti’s goal is to keep playing more competitive golf while still continuing to follow his students at GC La Rossera. He has always played well at this week’s venue and hopes to capture a win at the end of tomorrow’s round. “I struggled slightly on the front nine today compared to yesterday but overall I’m very happy. I’ve been putting very well and making some clutch putts this week. The plan for tomorrow is just to go out play my own game and have a low round.”

Netherland’s Davey Porsius is co-leading at 11 under-par after his incredible 9 under-par round today. He was -8 after 10 holes including an eagle at the 10th hole. Porsius had a few setbacks in his amateur career, however things changed in 2018 when he played in the KLM Open and then qualified for the Alps Tour. He was very pleased with the round today and hopes to finish the tournament off strong, “Today was very good, a good start to the round. I wanted to try and beat the course record but came up just short unfortunately. Italy is very lucky for me, I had a second place at Golf Nazionale and I obviously want to win tomorrow to try and make a jump in the Order of Merit.”

Spain’s Joel Moscatel Nachshon who was one of yesterday’s co-leaders, shot a 3 under-par round today for a two-day total of 10 under-par and is in a tied for 3rd place, 1 shot back of the lead entering tomorrow’s final round.  Even though this is his first season as a professional player, he competed all of last year’s season as an amateur. Joel was pleasantly surprised after his round today: “I didn’t expect it, I am very happy. I’m carrying good sensations from last week after having played a Challenge Tour event so I’m very happy.” He also commented on how he’s enjoying this course but finding it a bit more demanding physically: “The course is very nice but it is tricky and tiring especially with the humidity today, particularly hole 9 and 18 they are brutal. The goal for tomorrow is just to play my game and enjoy the day to see what happens.”

Floris De Haas from Netherland had 4 birdies and 1 bogey in his round today for a two-day total of 10 under-par and is in a tied for 3rd place, 1 shot from the lead. De Haas has been playing well this entire week “I love this course, I love the atmosphere and my game has been a result of that. The course played nicely again, still receptive but luckily more dry compared to yesterday. Today some of the pins were a bit more tricky in my opinion but I played steady and some putts dropped on the back nine. I’m looking forward to the final round tomorrow.”

In a tied for 5th place at 8 under-par and 3 shots back of the lead there is: Giacomo Fortini, Pierre Pineau, Luca Galliano, Davide Buchi, Jonathan Yates and Tom Vaillant.

Final Round-

The Final Round of the 8th Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon, will begin tomorrow at 8:15 am from hole 1 and 10. The final group will tee off at 9:32am. The winner of this tournament will earn € 5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.

A total of 45 players, 41 professional and 4 amateurs, made the cut which was set at 3 under-par.

There is a two-way tied for the lead after Round 1 at the 8th Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon.

Como, May 25th 2022- Consistent rain welcomed the players at Golf Club La Pinetina near Como, Italy for the First Round of the 8th Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon. Play began at 7:30 am from both the 1st and 10th hole, however it was suspended at 8:15am due to unplayable course conditions.

Round 1 resumed at 10:30 am with the morning wave having a total delay of 2 hours 15 minutes, however the afternoon wave had a 2 hour delay. Once play resumed, the rain had stopped and the weather became overcast with a pleasant spring temperature. After the rain, the course conditions softened favoring the players access to the pins and good scoring conditions.

At the conclusion of Round 1, we have a full leaderboard. Netherland’s Floris De Haas and Spain’s Joel Moscatel Nachshon lead the field with a 7 under-par round 63. Marco Archetti, Giacomo Fortini, Rocco Sanjust and Lorenzo Magini from Italy are in a four-way tied, just one shot back at 6 under-par.

Round 1 Player Quotes-

Floris De Haas from Netherland is co-leading after the 1st round at the 8th Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon. He shot a 7 under-par round 63 today with 6 birdies, 1 eagle and a single bogey. De Haas, was very pleased after his round, especially the eagle he made on the 3rd hole, “I was actually dreaming about this hole last night, it is one of the first holes that you must hit it straight, and then reach the green with a rescue, which is exactly what I did today and made the putt. It’s a beautiful hole, a risk and reward hole but pleased with the reward today.” He also commented on how he felt at ease with the course, “It’s very nice being here, the course is amazing, I love it. I’m feeling good at this golf course and my game was a result of that. I’m happy that after the delay, we didn’t have any rain instead, we had perfect scoring conditions and a receptive course.”

Spain’s Joel Moscatel Nachshon who represents R.C.G El Prat is the other co-leader of the 1st round. He shot a 7 under-par round 63 today. Playing in his first season as a professional golfer, however he is an experienced Alps Tour player having competed all of last year’s season as an amateur. Joel was pleased after his round and especially on how the course held up after the rain, “I felt so good today, I had good distances to the pins and felt very comfortable. The course was really good, I didn’t expect it to be this good with all the rain but I was happy.” He plans on enjoying the place and the course to have a good rest of the week.

Italy’s Marco Archetti, is just one shot of the first round lead with a round of 6 under-par 64. Archetti has always played consistently well at this week’s venue, Golf Club La Pinetina and was visibly pleased after his round today, “I played well, I managed to make a few more putts than usual which always helped and I would say I was pretty lucky today. After the torrential rain we had this morning, the course held up nicely and we could attack more pins which was good.” He proudly commented on how he would like to play more golf tournaments while continuing to train his athletes, being a golf instructor at GC La Rossera.

Another player who is just one shot from the lead is, Italy’s Lorenzo Magini. He turned pro in 2008 and has consistently played on the Alps Tour since then. In recent years, his tournament appearances have been more sporadic due to the fact that he is an instructor at his own golf academy. His round today included 5 birdies, 1 eagle and 1 single bogey for a 6 under-par 64.

Giacomo Fortini representing CUS Ferrara GC, Italy is the third player in the four-way tied, one shot back of the lead. He is a past winner on the Alps Tour, having won the 2018 Cervino Open as an amateur. Fortini is currently 26th in this season’s Order of Merit and has been playing consistently since the beginning of the year with 2 top 10 finishes.  After his round, he commented on how, “my putting and approach shots helped me score a low round today.”

Rocco Sanjust from Italy is the fourth player in the four-way tied, one shot back of the lead. His round included 4 birdies on the front nine and 3 birdies and 1 bogey on the back nine for a 6 under-par round 64.

Among the 144 players competing this week you can find 127 professionals and 17 amateurs. The prize fund is set at €40,000. The winner will earn € 5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.

The 8th edition of the Memorial Giorgio Bordoni is ready to get underway.

Como, May 23rd 2022– After a week off, the tour returns to the Northwestern part of Italy for the 8th edition of the Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon. The event will be played at Golf Club La Pinetina near Como, Italy from Wednesday 25th May until Friday 27th May.  On Tuesday 24th May, the traditional best ball aggregate to par pro-am with 25 teams will take place.

This event is named and dedicated to highly acclaimed golf instructor, Giorgio Bordoni who unexpectedly passed away at the age of 48 in 2013. In 1991 he was one of the founders of the Blue Team Golf Academy, a unique and innovative initiative in the world of coaching. He worked many years for the Italian Golf Federation as a National Coach earning many accomplishments during his career.

The tournament has reached its 8th edition this year and has been a consistent stop on the Alps Tour schedule since 2014, except for 2020 when the event wasn’t played due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Field-

This tournament has some notable past champions. The first edition of the tournament was won by Spain’s Borja Virto in 2014, while Spain’s Sebastian Garcia Rodriguez came to victory in 2019. Another Spanish victory occurred in 2021 with the current defending champion Angel Hidalgo Portillo winning with a total score of 14 under-par. Meanwhile current DP World Tour player, Italy’s Guido Migliozzi triumphed in 2018. From 2015 to 2018 the tournament was won by Italian players: Marco Crespi, Stefano Pitoni, Guido Migliozzi and Andrea Perrino all of whom have been able to honor their fellow colleague, Giorgio Bordoni with their victories.

The majority of this seasons past winners that include: Italy’s Stefano Mazzoli currently 2nd in the Order of Merit, France’s amateur Oihan Guillamoundeguy and Portugal’s Tomas Bessa Guimaraes currently 3rd in the Order of Merit will be competing for the 8th Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon title. However, two of this season’s past champions will not be playing, Markus Brier, the winner at the 30th Gösser Open and Koen Kouwenaar the winner at the 2022 Molinetto Alps Open and the current Alps Tour Order of Merit Leader.

There will be 144 players competing for a prize fund of €40,000 and 45,000 points. The winner of the 8th Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon will earn € 5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.

The Course-

Golf Club La Pinetina in Como, Italy is a very undulating 5761 meters par 70 course. It was designed by Harris Albertini Mezzalane and opened for play in 1971. It offers beautiful panoramic views of the nearby landscape that include the view of Monte Rosa which is the second highest mountain in Italy.

Golf Club La Pinetina covers 70 hectars in the Appiano Gentile Pine Forest, rich of pine trees, oak and chestnut trees as well as Scotch pine and birch trees. It’s not a particularly long course, however the complex course design situated on a very hilly terrain, requires accuracy and precise strategy from each player. Thanks to the natural layout of this golf course, players will find notable holes that will allow this course to stand out from the rest.
