Welcome to the 2022 Alps Tour Qualifying School Final Stage!

Rome, November 7^th 2022– A long-awaited week for the players trying to capture a playing card for the 2023 season. A full field of 156 players representing 20 different nations, will be competing at this year’s 54 holes Final Stage. 92 players were exempt into the field, while the remaining 64 players qualified through the three Stage 1 events that were played last week.

Players exempt into the field of Final Stage are: Alps Tour members ranked in the 2022 Order of Merit but were not admitted into the 2022 Emilia Romagna Alps Tour Grand Final field, players who participated in the 2022 World Amateur Team Championship and players who competed at the 2022 European Boys and Men Team Championships.

The 2022 Alps Tour Qualifying School Final Stage will be played in Rome. For the first two rounds, the players will be alternating between Golf Nazionale and Olgiata Golf Club. For the final round, the players that make the cut will be competing at Golf Nazionale. The tournament will be played from November 9^th until November 11^th.

The format of the tournament is a 54 holes stroke play, 18 holes a day. After 36 holes a cut will be made to the top 65 players and ties.

At the conclusion of the 54 holes, the top 35 players and ties will be eligible to receive Category 6 membership for the 2023 Alps Tour Season. The rest of the players who made the cut, and finished between the 36^th and 65^th position will be eligible to receive Category 8 membership for next year’s season. The remaining players will be eligible for membership in Category 9 for the 2023 Alps Tour Season. All of the players in categories 8 and 9 will be subject to the 2023 Alps Tour committee re-rank policy.

A lot of players, like Matt Wallace and Guido Migliozzi, who began their careers participating in the Alps Tour Qualifying School, are now winners on the major tours.

Last year, the tournament was won by France’s Martin Couvra.

The Golf Courses-

Golf Nazionale, one of the venues that is hosting this week’s 2022 Alps Tour Qualifying School Final Stage, is a 6462 meters par 72 course. It is considered one of the toughest and most challenging golf courses in Italy as well as being recognized one of the toughest courses in Europe. It was designed by George and Jim Fazio and David Mezzacane, and has hosted numerous prestigious events over the years including the 1991 World Cup. Golf Nazionale is set in the natural landscape of upper Lazio with dense forests full of ancient oaks. It is a very technical but fun golf course for all types of players.

Olgiata Golf Club is home to 27 holes of golf, the West Course and the East Course. This week the players will be competing on the west course. It was inaugurated in 1961 and designed by British Architect, C.Kenneth Cotton. The west course is the older of the two and is an 18 holes course. Prestigious events like the Italian Open have been played numerous times on this course. This is the first time that an Alps Tour event will be played on this course. In 2012, it was completely redesigned by American Architect Jim Fazio to adapt it to new requirements. The current course record for the “West Course” is held by Ian Poulter and Angel Cabrera with a score of 11 under-par (61). Both players achieved the course record during the 2002 Italian Open.

The 8th edition of the Memorial Giorgio Bordoni is ready to get underway.

Como, May 23^rd 2022– After a week off, the tour returns to the Northwestern part of Italy for the 8^th edition of the Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon. The event will be played at Golf Club La Pinetina near Como, Italy from Wednesday 25^th May until Friday 27^th May. On Tuesday 24^th May, the traditional best ball aggregate to par pro-am with 25 teams will take place.

This event is named and dedicated to highly acclaimed golf instructor, Giorgio Bordoni who unexpectedly passed away at the age of 48 in 2013. In 1991 he was one of the founders of the Blue Team Golf Academy, a unique and innovative initiative in the world of coaching. He worked many years for the Italian Golf Federation as a National Coach earning many accomplishments during his career.

The tournament has reached its 8^th edition this year and has been a consistent stop on the Alps Tour schedule since 2014, except for 2020 when the event wasn’t played due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Field-

This tournament has some notable past champions. The first edition of the tournament was won by Spain’s Borja Virto in 2014, while Spain’s Sebastian Garcia Rodriguez came to victory in 2019. Another Spanish victory occurred in 2021 with the current defending champion Angel Hidalgo Portillo winning with a total score of 14 under-par. Meanwhile current DP World Tour player, Italy’s Guido Migliozzi triumphed in 2018. From 2015 to 2018 the tournament was won by Italian players: Marco Crespi, Stefano Pitoni, Guido Migliozzi and Andrea Perrino all of whom have been able to honor their fellow colleague, Giorgio Bordoni with their victories.

The majority of this seasons past winners that include: Italy’s Stefano Mazzoli currently 2^nd in the Order of Merit, France’s amateur Oihan Guillamoundeguy and Portugal’s Tomas Bessa Guimaraes currently 3^rd in the Order of Merit will be competing for the 8^th Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon title. However, two of this season’s past champions will not be playing, Markus Brier, the winner at the 30^th Gösser Open and Koen Kouwenaar the winner at the 2022 Molinetto Alps Open and the current Alps Tour Order of Merit Leader.

There will be 144 players competing for a prize fund of €40,000 and 45,000 points. The winner of the 8^th Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon will earn € 5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.

The Course-

Golf Club La Pinetina in Como, Italy is a very undulating 5761 meters par 70 course. It was designed by Harris Albertini Mezzalane and opened for play in 1971. It offers beautiful panoramic views of the nearby landscape that include the view of Monte Rosa which is the second highest mountain in Italy.

Golf Club La Pinetina covers 70 hectars in the Appiano Gentile Pine Forest, rich of pine trees, oak and chestnut trees as well as Scotch pine and birch trees. It’s not a particularly long course, however the complex course design situated on a very hilly terrain, requires accuracy and precise strategy from each player. Thanks to the natural layout of this golf course, players will find notable holes that will allow this course to stand out from the rest.

The Alps Tour returns at Miglianico Golf for the 8th Abruzzo Open

Pescara, April 11^th 2022 – The tour returns to action this week in Italy after a two week break and head to the Abruzzo region in Central Italy. The 2022 Abruzzo Alps Open will be played at Miglianico Golf and Country Club in Pescara, Italy. The sixth event of the 2022 season, will be contended from Wednesday April 13^th until Friday April 15^th. On Tuesday, April 12^th, the day prior to the start of the tournament, a “best ball aggregate to par” shot gun pro-am will occur.

Miglianico Golf and Country Club is a 5875 meters par 72 course. It was designed by well-known American golf architect, Ronald Kirby. Miglianico G&CC has hosted numerous events in the past including the Abruzzo Alps Tour Open seven times, the 2021 1^st stage Alps Tour Qualifying School, and the 2009 Games of the Mediterranean. The course is surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, bunkers, and artificial lakes making Miglianico Golf a pleasant but challenging course to play having some strategically placed bunkers and water hazards.

The most recent winner of the Abruzzo Alps Open in 2021 is Jacopo Vecchi Fossa with a score of -15. Jacopo won the Alps Tour Order of Merit in 2021 earning him access in this year’s Challenge Tour. This week Jacopo will be in the field defending his title for the Abruzzo Alps Open. Past champions of this event include Guido Migliozzi who won the event in 2017 with a score of -14 and in 2018 with a score of -18, and is now a player on the DP World Tour. In addition, Matt Wallace, who is a current PGA Tour and DP World Tour player is also a past champion at Miglianico G&CC having won the 2016 Grand Final with a score of -17.

With most leading Order of Merit players competing this week, it is sure to be a very compelling week to watch. You’ll find the current Order of Merit leader, Italy’s Stefano Mazzoli in addition to the other top 5 players in the current Order of Merit rank. France’s Oihan Guillamoundeguy, winner of the second event of the season and 7^th in the current Order of Merit is also playing this week. All of this season’s previous winners are scheduled to compete this week and hope to each capture their second season win.

Migliozzi wins Abruzzo Open, his second victory this season

Italy’s Guido Migliozzi won today the Abruzzo Open at the Miglianico Golf and Country Club with a total score of -18. It is Migliozzi’s second Alps Tour victory this season, and the second time he wins this tournament in back-to-back years.

Frenchmen Paul Elissalde, who entered the final round as leader, and Julien Foret finished tied for 2nd place with a total score of -17. Alps Tour veteran Foret turned in the best card of the day (-9) with an eagle, 9 birdies and 2 bogeys.

« My day was incredible » Migliozzi said. « I played a solid game on the front 9 and finished 7 under. Then, I managed my game. Unfortunately, I made a double bogey on hole 17th but at the end, it was enough to win the tournament by one shot he explained. In the first round, I was a bit struggling with my game but I finished with 3 birdies in a row. Yesterday, I had a great round and finished 8 under par. Today, I was hungry, I was seeing the flags and I just wanted to hit the ball close to the flags, that was my game today » he continued.

« I’m very happy because I was the defending champion and I defended the trophy » he concluded.

Santiago Tarrio (ESP), who finished today’s tournament tied for 7th place (-13 total), is still the leader of the Order of Merit, the Alps Tour official season ranking. Louis Cohen Boyer (FRA), Alexandre Daydou (FRA), Marcus Mohr (ENG) and Xavier Poncelet (FRA). At the end of the season, the top 5 of the Order of Merit qualifies directly to play on the Challenge Tour.

Rising golf stars of the Alps Tour will travel to the Golf Club Des Iles Borromées, in Northern Italy, for the last tournament of the season, the 2018 Alps Tour Grand Final (October 18th through October 21st), reserved to the top 50 players in the Alps Tour Order of Merit.

Abruzzo Open marks end of regular season

The 2018 Alps Tour season is almost coming to an end as rising golf stars are gathering this week for the final tournament of the regular season, the Abruzzo Open, at the Miglianico Golf and Country Club (Italy) from September 20th through September 22nd.

The Abruzzo Open will be followed in October by the Alps Tour Grand Final at a date and place to be announced.

The Miglianico Golf and Country Club, a 18-hole par 71 golf course designed by renowned American architect Ronald Kirby, runs along the woods, wineries and artificial bunkers, with plenty of « off limits » and « water hazards », making it a very unique place to hold the 5th edition of the Abruzzo Open.

« The course is very nice and is well-liked by our rising golf stars » tournament director Alessandro Pia said. « Matt Wallace won the 2016 Grand Final on the same course. Wallace is today in 18th place in the European Tour’s Race to Dubai » he added.

126 players from 15 countries across five continents have entered the tournament including defending champion Guido Migliozzi (ITA) and Santiago Tarrio (ESP), leader of the Order of Merit, the Alps Tour’s official season ranking.

The €40,000 prize money tournament will be played over 54 holes of traditional stroke. Following a cut after 36 holes, the top 40 and ties will qualify for the final round of the tournament.

Italy’s Migliozzi wins the Open La Pinetina

Guido Migliozzi (ITA) won the Memorial Giorgio Bordoni by AON – Open La Pinetina today at the Golf Club La Pinetina in Como (Italy) with a total score of -14.

It is Migliozzi’s second victory on the Alps Tour. He won the Open Abruzzo in 2017.

James Sharp (ENG) and Tom Shadbolt (ENG) tied for second place at -13 total while a group of 3 players tied for third place at -12 total: Thomas Grava (FRA), Andrea Saracino (ITA) and Lars Keunen (NED).

« The last few holes were hard, because my putting was not as hot as on the first day. I played a solid game, I played safety and won by one shot so anything is possible » Migliozzi said. « It’s my second win in a row on the Alps Tour so I’m feeling very good » he continued.

Santiago Tarrio (ESP), who finished in 7th place today (-11 total), still leads the Order of Merit, the Alps Tour official season ranking. He is followed by Marcus Mohr (ENG) who did not make the cut in Italy this week, Louis Cohen Boyer (FRA), Alexandre Daydou (FRA) and David Borda (ESP).

Rising golf stars of the Alps Tour will now travel to France for the St Malo Golf Open starting on July 5th.

Keunen and Migliozzi co-leaders

Lars Keunen (NED) and Guido Migliozzi (ITA) are co-leaders of the Open La Pinetina after round 1 with a total score of -8.

They’re followed by a group of 3 players who are 2 strokes behind: Louis Cohen Boyer (FRA), James Sharp (ENG) and Tom Shadbolt (ENG).

« My day went pretty good. I was 2 under par through the fifth hole and I birdied 3 in a row to finish the front 9 » Lars Keunen said. « Then, I gave myself a lot of chances but did not convert too many of them. But I finished pretty well with an eagle on hole 8 » he explained. « It’s a nice start but there are 36 more holes to go » he concluded.

« Today was really good, my game was really solid, my putt was also very good, I made a few great putts starting from the 1st hole » 21-year-old Guido Migliozzi said. « To start 8 under is a very good score for the rest of the week. Tomorrow, I’ll tackle the course again and play like today with an attack strategy » he continued.

Both Keunen and Migliozzi made an eagle, 7 birdies and a bogey.

Weather conditions were sunny all day with temperatures in the 30s.

Round 2 will tee off tomorrow at 7h30.

Maiden win for Guido Migliozzi

Guido Migliozzi defeated two Frenchmen, Alex Daydou and Julien Foret in a play-off after thrilling day. The 20 year old player and his two opponents were -14 after 72 holes and had to play extra time. Migliozzi eventually lifted his maiden trophy in front of his public.

This last round of Abbruzzo Open was a tragedy. No less than 6 different leaders were in contention. Overnight leader, Gregory Molteni, turned first nine over par and then lost his chance to win ; meanwhile a pack of players did well leaving the club house and the swing of leaders started when coming back home. One of the first to reach -14 was Niccolo Quintarelli, then they were 5 ties for the lead then Antoine Rozner took command but dropped a shot on his last hole.

Julien Foret shared his last round with Daydou. The latter holed for birdie on the last to join his playing partner and Migliozzi at -14.

The top 5 is the following : 1^st Ugo Coussaud (FR), 2^nd Adria Arnaus (SP), 3^rd Antoine Rozner (FR), 4^th Lars Van Meijel (NL) and 5^th Robin Roussel (FR).
