Como, May 26th 2023- Dutchman Kiet Van der Weele wins his second event of the season at the 2023 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon. Spain’s Asier Aguirre Izcue and Niccolo Agugiaro from Italy concluded the tournament tied for 2ndplace with a three-day score of 10 under-par. Tied for 4th place at 8 under-par Ireland’s Ronan Mullarney, France’s Alexandre Daydou and Italy’s Enrico Di Nitto. In 7th place at 7 under-par, Italy’s Elia Dallanegra (am) and France’s Augustin Hole.
A warm spring day with optimal scoring conditions hosted the players competing at the beautiful Golf Club La Pinetina for the final round at the 2023 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon. Play began at 8:10 am local time and the leaders group teed off at 9.38 am local time from the 1st hole.

Kiet Van der Weele, 22, captures his second win of the season at the 2023 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon by 9 strokes! He shot a final bogey-free round of 5 under-par, 65. The young Dutch, from Apeldoorn, turned professional in September 2022, took his Alps Tour card last November at our Qualifying School and won the Alps de Las Castillas earlier this year. After his win, Van der Weele commented on how “it means a lot to win my 2ndevent, it means I’m doing good. I really look forward to what’s ahead as my game is in really good shape. I’m definitely going to enjoy today a lot.” He shot another bogey-free round “which was good, I was really solid again, there was no real mistakes and my confidence level was high.” When asked about his plans for the rest of the season, Van der Weele added: “In June I will play the Alps Tour events, then I have 7 Challenge Tour starts for later this season so I want to keep playing the Alps Tour to gain some more points so I can feel comfortable to be able to play the Challenge Tour events.” He wants to dedicate “this win is to my coaches, I want to thank them, part of it will also be for myself but we worked extremely hard and it’s paying off now.”
Spain’s Asier Aguirre Izcue, 23, who represents Zuasti Golf Club, concluded the tournament tied for 2nd place alongside Niccolo Agugiaro from Italy at 10 under-par. He shot a final round 63 with 10 birdies, 1 bogey and 1 double bogey.
Agugiaro, just 21 years old, finished the event tied for 2nd place alongside Aguirre Izcue. He shot a final round 65 with 7 birdies and 2 bogeys. He turned professional in November last year and this is his first full season competing on the Alps Tour. After his round, Agugiaro commented on how “he looks forward to his first season as a professional and hopes for good performances like this week the rest of the year.”
The tournament ends with a three-way tie for 4th place at 8 under-par with Ireland’s Ronan Mullarney, France’s Alexandre Daydou and Italy’s Enrico Di Nitto. Just 1 stroke back, tied for 7th place Elia Dallanegra (am) from Italy and France’s Augustin Hole.
The Alps Tour Order of Merit rank after the first five events of the season has Van der Weele leading and Mullarney and Spain’s Quim Vidal to close out the top three spots. In 4th place, France’s Oihan Guillamoundeguy and in 5th place Englishman Jack Floydd.
The low round of the day belongs to Aguirre Izcue with a 7 under-par 63.
The prize for the highest ranked amateur in the final leaderboard goes to Dallanegra who shot 66,68,69.
Final Round-
Van der Weele winner of the 2023 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon, earned 6,525 Order of Merit points and the winning check of €5,800.
The next scheduled event is set for June 2nd-4th at Golf de La Grange aux Ormes, Metz, France for the 2023 Open de la Mirabelle d’Or.

Kiet Van der Weele extends his lead at the 2023 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon.
After some heavy overnight rain fell over Golf Club La Pinetina, host of the 2023 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon the second round play began at 7:30 am from both the 1st and 10th hole. Due to the overnight rain, today players had to face a course with slightly softer but still in very good conditions thanks to the work performed by head superintendent Roberto de Maestri and his team. It was an overcast day with the sun trying to peak through with barely any winds and temperatures in the mid 20°Cs. For tomorrow’s final round, a beautiful sunny day is expected with temperatures reaching around 27°C.
Kiet Van der Weele from Netherland continues to lead after two rounds at the 2023 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon with a two-day total of 14 under-par. He made 4 birdies on the front nine and 4 birdies and 1 bogey during his round today for a 7 under-par,63. He is 22 years old and turned professional in September 2022. He has had a positive start to the season with numerous good finishes and captured a win at the 2023 Alps de Las Castillas. After his round, he was very happy about his comeback after “the bogey on the 15th hole I missed an up and down which was a shame but coming back strong with a birdie on 16 was good. I can say my game is really sharp at the moment and in a good place so it makes me enjoy playing event more.” Van der Weele finds himself very comfortable around GC La Pinetina “I really like the trees around this golf course and I’m able to see the shots I need to hit very clearly. It’s a really beautiful course and makes me at ease.” Looking ahead to the final round tomorrow with a 7 shots lead, he added: “it would be a lot to win another event so early in the season, it would be really nice and would allow me to have some comfort for the rest of the year. I have some Challenge Tour events I’ll be playing in as well so hopefully I’ll have enough room to play in them but I will for sure take it step by step and evaluating things as the season goes on.”
France’s Augustin Hole, 25 years old who represents Biarritz Le Phare shot a 6 under-par 64 in today’s round for a two-day total of 7 under-par. He finds himself in 2nd place 7 shots off the lead. He made 4 birdies on the front nine holes and 3 birdies and 1 bogey on the back nine. After the round, Hole commented on how “I think the course was playing slightly easier today, it was softer and I think some of the pins were more accessible.” Tomorrow, he wants to “focus on myself, I have a lot of work to do to catch the leader. I need to focus on my own game and see what will happen. My putting has been very solid for the entire week, I barely missed any putts under three meters. Hopefully that will keep going tomorrow.”
Italy’s Elia Dallanegra (am), 19 years old, who was tied for 4th place after yesterday’s 1st round, finds himself tied for 3rdplace with a two-day total of 6 under-par. He shot a 2 under-par 68 today with 4 birdies and 2 bogeys. After the round, Dallanegra proudly commented: “It’s been two great rounds so far, my game has been steady but I’ve been very lucky on the greens making a lot of putts and today I even holed out a bunker shot on the 4th hole. I’m very pleased overall.” When asked about the course conditions after the heavy overnight rain, he went on to add: “I believe the conditions today as slightly easier than yesterday, there is barely any wind but the course is definitely softer and we aren’t getting as much roll but the greens were perfect so it was easier to hole putts today.”
Enrico Di Nitto from Italy shot another 3 under-par round today for a two-day total of 6 under-par and be tied for 3rd place entering tomorrow’s final round. During today’s round, Di Nitto made 1 eagle on the par 5 8th hole, 2 birdies and 1 bogey. He has been constantly near the top of the leaderboards in the majority of the events so far this season and his most recent result was a tied for 4th place at the 2023 Gösser Open. Di Nitto after his second 3 under-par was satisfied even though it was a different 3 under-par compared to yesterday: “Yesterday I played really well and had a horrible finish. Today instead I had a slow start and didn’t play as well as yesterday but managed to finish my round with an eagle on my 17th hole, the 8th of the course. My putting has been very solid as of lately and now I only need to be able to put the entire tournament together and hopefully something good will happen.” When looking ahead to the final round tomorrow “I will focusing on having another good warm-up session, a good putting session and then go out and see what will happen.”
France’s Alexandre Daydou, 26 years old is tied in 3rd place at 6 under-par alongside Dallanegra (am) and Di Nitto. He shot a 2 under-par 68 today with 5 birdies and 3 bogeys.
Italian amateur Luca Rimauro had the highlight of the day making a hole-in-one during today’s second round on the par 3 17th hole from 158 meters with an 8 iron.
The low round of the day belongs to current leader Kiet Van der Weele with a 7 under-par 63.
Final Round-
The final round of the 2023 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon will begin at 8:10 am local time from the 1st and 10th hole.
A total of 51 players made the cut which was set at 140 (E). The final group will tee off at 9:38 am local time from the 1st hole.
The winner of the 2023 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon, will earn the winning check of €5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.

Como, May 24th 2023- After the 1st round at the 2023 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon, we have a tight leaderboard. Netherland’s Kiet Van der Weele leads the way after a bogey-free 7 under-par 63. Tied for 2nd place only 2 strokes back: Finland’s Eemil Alajarvi and Spain’s Manuel Morugan. There is a 6-way tied for 4th place at 4 under-par that includes: Spain’s Asier Aguirre Izcue, Italian amateur Mattia Comotti, France’s Alexandre Daydou, Netherland’s Lars Keunen, Italy’s Filippo Bergamaschi and his compatriot Elia Dallanegra (am).
The first round at the 2023 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon, being played at Golf Club La Pinetina in Como, Italy started with pleasant weather conditions. It was a sunny day with occasional clouds and some light winds with temperatures around 22°C. However, in the early afternoon, the weather became overcast with some thunderstorms in the area. At 7:04 pm play was suspended due to inclement weather in the area with only a few groups per side left to conclude their round. Luckily play resumed at 7:30pm which allowed the players to finish the 1st round. Some moderate rain is expected for tomorrow especially in the morning but for Friday’s final round a beautiful sunny day is forecasted with temperatures around 27°C.
Netherland’s Kiet Van der Weele, 22 years old leads by 2 strokes after his great 1st round at the 2023 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon. He shot a bogey-free, 7 under-par opening round. He currently sits in 3rd place in the Order of Merit Rank and captured his 1st professional win at the 2023 Alps de Las Castillas which took place at the end of April. Van der Weele was really happy with his performance at the conclusion of his 1st round: “My game was really good today, I started off well, I made a nice putt on 1 to kickstart the round, I teed off on 10. My putting and short game was really good and it needs to be like that to make a bogey-free round. My game is in a good place right now and I would like to take advantage.” He went on to add on how his home course in the Netherlands is very similar to GC La Pinetina: “The course is really beautiful, especially the back nine. There are some holes that are very pretty with a lot of trees. This course is more strategic and you need to be very precise using a lot of irons of the tees. The rough is nice and high so your short game needs to be good if you want a good round. I really like it and I’m very comfortable on it as it’s very similar to my home course.” Van der Weele plans on “taking it a day at the time and playing one shot at a time and one hole at a time for the next two rounds. Tomorrow is a new day and I will go from scratch and see what happens. I obviously would like to win another event, that’s my nature but I will try to play my best and see what the outcome will be.”Eemil Alajarvi from Finland, 23 years old, concluded his 1st round with a 5 under-par 65 and is one of the two players tied for 2nd place only 2 strokes back. He made 1 eagle, 4 birdies and 1 bogey in his round. He turned professional in 2021 and this is his third season playing on the Alps Tour. After his round, Alajarvi commented on how well he played, “It was a solid day. I hit very well from the tee so it was easy to get good birdie chances. I enjoy playing here, I think the course fits me very well. The last tournament was very rainy in Austria, so I’m not worried about the forecast. Obviously, my goal for the season is to earn one of the cards that will allow me to gain access to the Challenge Tour next season.”
Spain’s Manuel Morugan who represents Real Guadalhorce Club de Golf is the second player tied for 2nd place at 5 under-par. He made 3 birdies on the front nine and 2 birdies, 1 eagle and 2 bogeys on the back nine for a 65. Morugan has obtained numerous good results on the Alps Tour over the years and captured his first win on the tour last season at the 2022 Abruzzo Alps Open.
In the 6-way tied currently for 4th place at 4 under-par: Spain’s Asier Aguirre Izcue, Italian amateur Mattia Comotti, France’s Alexandre Daydou, Netherland’s Lars Keunen and Italy’s Filippo Bergamaschi and his compatriot Elia Dallanegra (am).
Alfredo Migliorini had the highlight of the day making a hole-in-one during today’s first round on the par 3 17th hole from 158 meters with an 8 iron.
The 144 players are competing for an overall prize fund of €40.000 and 45,000 Order of Merit points. The winner will earn €5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.
Round 2-
The second round of the 2023 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon will begin again at 7:30 am local time from the 1st and 10th hole. After round 2, a cut will be made to the top 40 players and ties.

The 9th edition of the Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon gets underway!
Como, May 22nd 2023- After a week off, the tour returns to action in the Northwestern part of Italy for the 9th edition of the Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon. This will be the 5th event of the 2023 season and will be played at Golf Club La Pinetina near Como, Italy from Wednesday 24th May until Friday 26th May. On Tuesday 23rd May, the traditional best ball aggregate to par pro-am will take place with approximately 25 teams competing.
This tournament is named and dedicated to highly acclaimed golf instructor, Giorgio Bordoni who unexpectedly passed away in 2013 at the age of 48. He was one of the founders of the Blue Team Golf Academy, a unique and innovative initiative in the world of coaching. He also worked many years for the Italian Golf Federation as a National Coach earning many accomplishments in his career.
This is the 9th edition of the tournament which has been a consistent stop on the Alps Tour schedule since 2014. In 2020, it was the only year the event wasn’t played due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Field
All of this seasons winners that include: England’s Jack Floydd currently 5th in the Order of Merit and winner of this season opener Ein Bay Open, Spain’s Quim Vidal current leader of the standing and winner of the 2023 Red Sea Little Venice Open, Netherland’s Kiet Van der Weele winner of the 2023 Alps de Las Castillas and currently 3rd in the standing and most recent winner at the 31st Gösser Open Ireland’s Ronan Mullarney who is 2nd in the Order of Merit rank, will headline a strong field that will compete for the 2023 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon title.
Alongside the current season winners, 4 players in the top 10 in the Order of Merit will compete: France’s Oihan Guillamoundeguy who is in 4th place, Italy’s Andrea Romano in 7th in the Order of Merit rank with his compatriots Gianmaria Rean Trinchero who is in 8th place and Cristiano Terragni rounds out the top 10.
The Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon title was captured by notable players over the years. The 1st edition of the event in 2014 was won by Spain’s Borja Virto while his compatriot Sebastian Garcia Rodriguez came to victory in 2019. Another Spanish victory occurred in 2021 with Angel Hidalgo Portillo winning with a total score of 14 under-par. Current DP World Tour player, Italy’s Guido Migliozzi triumphed in 2018.
The 2022 edition was won by Italy’s Gregorio De Leo, he won the 2022 Alps Tour Order of Merit and became a Challenge Tour player. He conquered the event in style with a fabulous 59 in the final round!
From 2015 to 2018 as well as the most recent edition was won by Italian players: Marco Crespi, Stefano Pitoni, Guido Migliozzi, Andrea Perrino and Gregorio De Leo all of whom have been able to honor their fellow colleague, Giorgio Bordoni with victories.
This week, there will be 144 players competing from 16 different nationalities for the title.
The players will be playing for a prize fund of €40,000 and 45,000 points. The winner of the 2023 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by Aon, will earn €5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.
The format of the tournament is a 54 holes stroke play, where a cut will be made after 36 holes. The top 40 players and ties will compete during the final round on May 26th 2023.

The Course
Golf Club La Pinetina in Appiano Gentile, Italy is situated 35 km north of Milan and 12 km south of Como. It is a very undulating 5761 meters par 70 course. It was designed by Harris Albertini Mezzalane and opened in 1971. It offers beautiful panoramic views of the nearby landscape that includes view of Monte Rosa which is the second highest mountain in Italy and the Alps of Lombardy.
Golf Club La Pinetina covers 70 hectars in the “Appiano Gentile and Tradate Pinewood Regional Park” rich of pine trees, oak and chestnut trees as well as Scotch pine and birch trees. It’s not a particularly long course, however the complex design situated on a very hilly terrain, requires accuracy and precise strategy from each player. Thanks to the natural layout of this golf course, players will find notable holes that will allow this course to stand out from the rest.

The Alps Tour heads to Austria for the 31st Gösser Open.
Maria Lankowitz, May 9th 2023- The Alps Tour players head to Austria to compete in the 31st edition of the 2023 Gösser Open. This will be the 4th event of the 2023 season and will be played at Golf Club Erzherzog Johann in Maria Lankowitz from Thursday May 11th until Saturday May 13th.
On May 9th at GC Graz-Andritz St. Gotthard, owned by the Murhof Gruppe, this week’s promoter, the 2023 Austrian International Par 3 Championship will take place. Some of the professionals that will be taking part will then be competing for the Gösser Open title.
On Wednesday May 10th, the traditional Gösser Open shotgun Pro-Am will take place with approximately 32 teams competing.
The Gösser Open, is one of the most important stops of the Tour season and it is the oldest tournament on the Alps Tour schedule. It is also the most traditional professional golf tournament played in Austria.
The event began in 1993 at Steiermärkischer Golf Club Murhof and in 2000 it moved to Erzherzog Johann GC, which became its permanent host course. Just a year later in 2001 when the Alps Tour was founded, the Gösser Open became part of the Alps Tour schedule, and has been a regular event since then.
The Field
All of this season past winners will headline a strong field of 144 players at the 2023 Gösser Open: Jack Floydd, winner of the 2023 Ein Bay Open, Quim Vidal, winner of the 2023 Red Sea Little Venice Open and Kiet Van der Weele, winner of the 2023 Alps de Las Castillas.
In the field this week, all of the players who are currently in the top 10 of the actual Alps Tour Order of Merit will be competing except for number 7, Spain’s Jacobo Pastor. The current top 3 places are held by leader Spain’s Quim Vidal, number 2 Netherland’s and most recent winner Kiet Van der Weele and England’s Jack Floydd who rounds out the top 3 spots.
The current defending champion of the Gösser Open, which also celebrated the 30th edition is Austria’s own Markus Brierwith a score of 17 under-par. He is a current Legends Tour player with multiple wins on both the Challenge Tour as well as the DP World Tour. He captured the Gösser Open title three times in his career: 1994, 1995 and 2022.
Brier will be in the field this week alongside fellow Legends Tour players Swiss André Bossert and England’s David Shacklady.
The Gösser Open title was captured by notable players over the years that include England’s Matt Wallace in 2016. Inevitably a number of Austrian players have triumphed over the years some of which multiple times: Lukas Nemecs, Gordon Manson and most recently Markus Brier.
One of the most recent past champions, Austria’s Timon Baltl who won in 2019 will be competing for the title this week alongside other past champions like: Austria’s Martin Wiegele, France’s Thomas Elissalde and Austria’s Jurgen Maurer. Baltl was able to earn his Challenge Tour card in 2020 thanks to the results he achieved in 2019 on the Alps Tour.
This week, there will be 144 players competing from 17 different nationalities for the title. The players will be playing for a prize fund of €40,000 and 45,000 points. The winner of the 31st edition of the Gösser Open, will earn €5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.
The format of the tournament is a 54 holes stroke play, where a cut will be made after 36 holes. The top 40 players and ties will compete during the final round on May 13th 2023.

The Course
Golf Club Erzherzog Johann in Maria Lankowitz is a 5967 meters par 72 course. It was designed by architect DI Herwig Zisser and inaugurated in 1992. The course is located about 40km from the city of Graz on the edge of a natural reserve in the Western Styria area. It was built as part of a revitalization project due to the fact that the area underneath the golf course was previously a coal mine.
Golf Club Erzherzog Johann in Maria Lankowitz has some picturesque views including rolling hills, lakes, and forests which appease the eye. Nonetheless, the course creates numerous challenges for the players that require accuracy and precision due to the layout of the golf course.
The current tournament course record is held by Lukas Lipold in his 2nd round of the 2022 Gösser Open, Thomas Feyrsinger in his 2nd round of the 2005 Gösser Open and Claude Grenier in his 1st round of the 2011 Gösser Open, all with a score of 63.

Final Round Leaderboard
There was a change in weather conditions for today’s final round. Some overnight rain occurred over Palomarejos Golf, in Toledo Spain which allowed the course conditions to soften favoring the players with good scoring conditions. When play began the weather was overcast with the sun peeking through and chillier temperatures compared to the first two rounds. Play began at 9:00 am local time from both the 1st and 10th hole. The leaders teed off at 10:20 am from hole 1.
Final Round Player Quotes
Kiet Van der Weele captures his first professional win at the 2023 Alps de Las Castillas by 3 strokes. He shot a final round of 7 under-par, 65 that included 7 birdies in a row on the front nine holes and 1 birdie and 1 bogey on the back nine for a three-day total at 22 under-par. He turned professional in September 2022. After his win, Van der Weele commented on how “today went really well. The 7 birdies on the front nine really helped me get the round going. I felt really good and the birdies I made weren’t big putts but put me in a good mood and allowed me to play more freely. I haven’t had the opportunity to play many events as a professional having turned pro just last year but capturing my first win so early now it feels really satisfying and I’m sure it’ll benefit me later on. I did it as a team with my coaches, my management so this is definitely a team effort.”
Jacobo Pastor from Spain concluded his tournament in 2nd place with a three-day score of 19 under-par. He shot a final round of 7 under-par, 65 with 8 birdies and 1 bogey. After the round, Pastor commented on his performance this week: “It’s sad to end another round with a bogey. I played well though overall. On the 12th hole I hit a great shot with my 3 wood to a few meters and it was the right moment to put pressure on my fellow competitors and try to reach -21/22 under. I made birdie on the 15th hole and then on the 16th hole I missed a short putt to reach 21 under-par. On 17th hole, I hit a really bad shot and on the 18th hole I made a few mistakes and deserved to make bogey. It was a nice tournament overall and I’m happy with my result. Ending the tournament in 2nd place is always nice especially considering I wasn’t very comfortable with my long game the first few days. I’m looking forward to the next events.”
The tournament ends with a two-way tie for 3rd place at 18 under-par with Spain’s Pedro Oriol and France’s Oihan Guillamoundeguy. Just 1 stroke back tied for 5th place Spain’s Quim Vidal, Gonzalo Vicente Elena and Borja Martin.
The Alps Tour Order of Merit rank after the first three events of the season has Quim Vidal leading and Kiet Van der Weeleand Jack Floydd to close out the top three spots. In 4th place, Davey Porsius and in 5th place Oihan Guillamoundeguy.

Final Round Tee Times
Another beautiful day with mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures welcomed the players at Palomarejos Golf southwestern of Madrid for the 2nd round of the 2023 Alps de Las Castillas. Play began at 8:30 am from both the 1st and 10thhole. The scoring conditions were more favorable in the morning as a western wind picked up during the afternoon. Rain is forecasted for tomorrow’s final round with winds at around 21 km/h.
Netherland’s Kiet Van der Weele who was tied for 3rd place at the conclusion of yesterday’s 1st round, finds himself in a share of the lead after today’s round at 15 under-par. He followed his opening-round of 7 under-par, with an 8 under-par in the second round for a two-day total of 15 under-par. During today’s round, he made 1 eagle, 7 birdies and 1 bogey. Van der Weele, 22 years old, turned professional in September 2022 and has started the season well finishing tied for 6th place at the season opener, 2023 Ein Bay Open. After his round, he was very pleased, “Today was good, I played really well, I made some good putts on the back nine and game is very solid at the moment. On this course, you have a lot of opportunities for birdies and eagles as the par 5 aren’t very long so I’m glad I was able to take advantage of the opportunities.” Van der Weele, had a strong finish with 2 birdies and an eagle on his last three holes, “yes it was a really good finish heading into the round tomorrow.”
Borja Martin from Spain shot a bogey-free 9 under-par round today for a two-day total of 15 under-par and be in a tie for the lead entering tomorrow’s final round. He is 23 years old and playing this week as a player in the National Field. Martin belongs to the Basque Team by Olazabal, which was created by Basque Federation and Basque Government with the aim to get as many Basque young golfers to the Olympics. He has an opportunity to play weekly with Spanish Major Champion, José María Olazábal. He made 7 birdies and 1 eagle during his round. When Martin signed for his 9 under-par, he was very satisfied: “Today I played well, I had good feelings, I made a few mistakes but it was a good round overall. I made a lot of good things during today’s round and had good rhythm going. I did really good on the greens today, I putted well but overall I had great sensations on the greens.”

France’s Oihan Guillamoundeguy is tied for 3rd place at 13 under-par and only 2 strokes off the lead. He shot a second round of 8 under-par 64 with 7 birdies, 1 eagle and 1 bogey. Guillamoundeguy is just 18 years old and is a past winner on the Alps Tour having won the 2022 Red Sea Little Venice Open as an amateur, however, he turned professional in December 2022 and is now competing in his first season as a professional player. At the conclusion of his round, he was pleased with his eagle, birdie, birdie finish: “I was doing great on the front nine and at the beginning of the back nine the putts weren’t falling. I stayed patient and made eagle birdie birdie to finish which is really nice heading into the final round tomorrow.” He also commented regarding his first season as a pro, that he’s “trying to stay patient as I know I’m playing well and I’m young so I just need to learn and enjoy the moment.”
Alongside Guillamoundeguy tied in 3rd place at 13 under-par, Spain’s Pedro Oriol. Oriol’s second round included 1 eagle, 8 birdies and 2 bogeys. He shot a 31 on the front nine and a 33 on the back nine to sign his card for a second round 64.
James Sugrue from Ireland, who was tied for 3rd place yesterday, followed his 7 under-par opening round with a 5 under-par, 67 today and holds a two-day total of 12 under-par and is tied for 5th place entering the final round tomorrow. He turned professional at the beginning of 2020 however due to the pandemic, this is his 2nd full season on the Alps Tour. After his round, Sugrue commented on how: “today was very similar to yesterday, I drove the ball well and took advantage of the par 5 which I believe is very important on this golf course. I missed a few opportunities but that happens so stayed patient and took advantage where I was able to.” He also added on how he is “looking forward to tomorrow, the weather was lovely again this morning and not as windy as it’ll get this afternoon.”
Together with Sugrue in a tie for 5th place, and three strokes of the lead heading into the final round, Spain’s Jorge Maicasand Jacobo Pastor and Christopher Hickman from the United States.
The low round of the day belongs to Spain’s Alvaro Hernandez Cabezuela with a 10 under-par 62 and heads into the final round tied for 13th.
The final round of the 2023 Alps de Las Castillas will begin at 9:00 am local time from hole 1 and 10.
A total of 46 players made the cut which was set at 137 (-7). The final group will tee off at 10:20 am local time from the 1sthole.
The winner of the 2023 Alps de Las Castillas, will earn the winning check of €5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.

Round 2 Tee Time
A beautiful sunny day with blue skies and temperatures that reached 29°C was the backdrop of today’s first round at the 2023 Alps de Las Castillas. The tournament is being played at Palomarejos Golf in Toledo, Spain. Today, players competed with perfect scoring conditions with approximately 20km/h winds. Play began at 8:30 am from both the 1st and 10th hole. The forecast for tomorrow’s round is expected to remain very similar to today’ with slightly more wind. For Saturday’s final round, some rain and chiller temperatures are expected.
Italy’s Enrico Di Nitto who represents Olgiata Golf Club leads by 1 stroke at the conclusion of the 1st round at the 2023 Alps de Las Castillas. He shot a bogey-free, 9 under-par opening round. He is a past winner on the Alps Tour and is playing this week on a wild card invitation. Di Nitto played the first two events of the season in Egypt finishing T14 and T26. He was very content with his round as it is his Personal Best score: “I had a good start today, I putted really really well today especially under 4 meters and hit my irons very close to the pins. Unfortunately, I didn’t take advantage of the par 5 but overall, it’s a result I’m very happy as this is my Personal Best score. I will try to keep playing with little to no expectations so I can focus on my game and give 100% during every round. I would like conclude this season earning my full card for the Challenge Tour.”
Marcos Pastor from Spain, concluded his first round with an 8 under-par, 64 and is in 2nd place only 1 stroke back. He began his round on the 10th hole today and made 2 birdies and an eagle on the par 4, 15th hole. Pastor was very satisfied with his round, as this is the 1st time he played this course: “I’m very happy as 8 under-par I believe is a good score to start the tournament. I unfortunately wasn’t able to play a practice round yesterday as I arrived late, I only walked 9 holes and the remaining 9 holes I saw them through Google Earth so that makes it an even better round.” Pastor added: “I began my round making some good putts on the first few holes and then on the 15th hole, I had 103 meters and holed out my 56° wedge for eagle.”
Spain’s Victor Jimenez Bravo, is one of four players tied for 3rd place at 7 under-par. He made 8 birdies and 1 bogey during his 1st round. Jimenez had a good confidence boost following today’s round: “I came to the tournament not hitting the ball very well, but today has been a day that the ball has gone more or less where I wanted. haven’t had good results for a while, since the qualifying round of the Spanish Open when I shot 5 under par and I was one shot away from qualifying. This is a pretty good confidence boost.” Jimenez is also a great tenor singer, “My father supports me one hundred percent with everything I do.” He also added that recently “played with my father and he gave me good advice. The advice he always gives me and everyone else is “hole by hole and stroke by stroke” and in the end that’s what I did today, I thought about the moment, not the result.”
Netherland’s Lars Keunen, shot a 7 under round 65 with 2 bogeys and 4 birdies on his front nine and 5 birdies, 1 double bogey and an eagle on his back nine to be tied for 3rd place. Keunen had a strong finish to his 1st round with 1 eagle and 3 birdies on his last 5 holes. After his round, he was pleased to comment: “Today was definitely a good start! It took me a while to get comfortable with my shots but after 6 holes I got it going nicely.” This is the first time that Palomarejos Golf hosts an Alps Tour event, Keunen found the course in good conditions, “the golf course is nice, not very difficult but in very good condition which makes it fun to play.” When asked about his strong finish, Keunen added “after making double bogey on 13 I knew I had some easier holes coming up glad I was able to take advantage of them. Hopefully I can keep the birdies coming tomorrow!” He went on to add that he expects the winning score on Saturday to be around 18 under-par.
Ireland’s James Sugrue is also tied at 7 under-par and 2 strokes off the lead. He made 6 birdies, 1 eagle and 1 bogey. Sugrue won the 2019 Amateur Championship and he was then able to play in the 2020 Masters, 2020 Open Championship and 2020 US Open. He turned professional at the beginning of 2020 but due to the pandemic, this is his second full season on the Alps Tour. After his 7 under-par round, Sugrue commented on how “the course is very scorable but only if you’re in the fairway, therefore you must drive it well and I’m pleased I was able to do that today. The weather was phenomenal today, even though there is a good breeze now but it was perfect for scoring.” Looking ahead to the rest of the week, Sugrue added “I believe the winning score will be around 19 under-par.”
In the 4-way tie for 3rd place alongside Victor Jimenez Bravo, Lars Keunen and James Sugrue at 7-under par and 2 shots back of the lead there is Netherland’s Kiet Van der Weele. He made 8 birdies today and 2 bogeys.
The 132 players are competing for an overall prize fund of €40.000 and 45,000 Order of Merit points. The winner will earn €5,800 and 6,525 Order of Merit points.
Round 2-
The second round of the 2023 Alps de Las Castillas will begin again at 8:30 am local time from the 1st and 10th hole. After round 2, a cut will be made to the top 40 players and ties.
The first-round leader, Enrico Di Nitto will begin round 2 at 14:04 local time from the 10th hole.
