Marcus Mohr leads after Round 1 at the 2022 Alps Tour Stage 1 Qualifier

Acaya, November 2^nd 2022- England’s Marcus Mohr leads with a 4 under-par after the first round of the 2022 Alps Tour Stage 1 Qualifier which is currently being played at Acaya Golf Club. A former winner on the Alps Tour, Marcus is attempting to gain his playing status for the 2023 season. He opened his round today with 5 birdies and a single bogey on the front nine holes, and then closed out his round with a bogey and a birdie on the back nine. Marcus had some very strong performance over the past few years including a victory at the 2018 Open St Francois Guadeloupe.

In second place only 2 strokes back, one of Ireland’s hopefuls Ronan Mullarney with a 1^st round score of 2 under-par with 3 birdies and a single bogey. He is looking to gain playing status and stability on the Alps Tour for the 2023 season to evolve from his career on the EuroPro Tour. He turned professional in 2019 and competed in the 2022 Open Championship.

French amateur Louis Joubin, shot an even par 71 for today’s first round and sits in 3^rd place. At the conclusion of today’s round, there are only two players under-par.

The 38 players in the field were welcomed with beautiful sunny skies and a pleasant temperature with a highs around 24°. A very similar forecast is expected for tomorrow’s final round. Players will be teeing off from 8:00am until 10:12am. At the end of tomorrow’s final round, the top ranked players will gain access to next week’s 2022 Alps Tour Qualifying School Finals where full Alps Tour cards for the 2023 season will be given out.

Alps Tour Grand Final concludes 2018 season

Rising golf stars of the Alps Tour are heading this week to Lake Maggiore (Italy) for the culmination of the 2018 season, the Alps Tour Grand Final.

The top 50 players of the Order of Merit, the Alps Tour official season ranking, will compete against each other starting this Thursday to determine the overall winner of the 2018 season.

On top of being in the top 50 following the last tournament of the regular season (the Abruzzo Open), players must also have played in at least 6 tournaments in 3 different countries this season to be able to take part in the Grand Final.

At the end of this week’s Grand Final, the top 5 of the ranking will take a full category on the Challenge Tour next year. As an amateur, Adria Arnaus won the 2017 Grand Final and finished first in the Order of Merit. Arnaus is currently ranked 9th overall on the Challenge Tour and will play on the European Tour next season.

Santiago Tarrio, the leader of the Order of Merit with 26,702.45 points, will not participate in this week’s Grand Final as he’s been invited to play in the European Tour’s Valderrama Masters in Spain. « I’m sad not to be able to play in the Grand Final. I like the course very much and I feel very welcomed there. But there are tournaments I can’t turn down » Tarrio said.

« I can’t wait to start playing on a course where I have played well there twice finishing tied for 6th (Des Iles Borromées Open 2018) and tied for 9th place (Grand Final 2017) » England’s Marcus Mohr, who is ranked in 4th place in the Order of Merit, said. « I said at the start of the year that I wanted to give myself a chance and I have » he continued. « I will be nervous and excited when the Grand Final starts on Thursday but I know that if I play my game, I will come out where I deserve to be at the end of the week » Mohr concluded.

« I just want to end the season with the same state of mind I’ve had all year long, that is determined and at the same time serene » Frenchman Xavier Poncelet said. Poncelet is ranked 5th in the Order of Merit but is closely followed by David Borda (ESP) who is 133,44 points behind him.

The €45,000 prize money tournament will be played over 72 holes of traditional stroke. But because it is the Grand Final, 70 000 points will be distributed to give the opportunity to players not in the top positions of the Order of Merit to jump in the top 5 with this last tournament. The winner of the Grand Final will get 11,000 points while the runner up will grab 7,000 points.

This is the second year in a row the Golf Des Iles Borromées is hosting the Grand Final. It is also the second time this season the Alps Tour makes a stop at the Golf Des Iles Borromées after a tournament played there at the end of July.

The Golf Des Iles Borromées, a 18-hole par 71 golf course located 500 meters above sea level, is surrounded by beautiful nature and an exceptional flora. The course has spectacular views of the Swiss Alps and of the Ticino Plain. From the 18th tee, one can see the skyline of Milan and four lakes: Lake Maggiore, Lake Varese, Lake Monate and Lake Comabbio. The Golf club is also the home of a very dynamic junior school managed by a former player of the Alps Tour, Federico Colombo.

Marcus Mohr wins in Guadeloupe

Marcus Mohr (ENG) won the Open Saint-François Région Guadeloupe on Saturday at the Golf International Saint-François with a total of -7.

It was Mohr’s first professional victory.

France’s Maxime Radureau finished 2nd with a total of -4 while a group of 5 players tied for 3rd place at -3: Frenchmen Anthony Renard, Xavier Poncelet, Louis Cohen-Boyer, Guillaume Cambis and Spain’s Ivan Cantero Gutierrez.

« I will remember this victory forever » 27-year-old native of Liverpool Marcus Mohr said. « I went trough so many emotions out there, it was a really good day all in all » he added. « You have to embrace the heat and everything. Even if I had not won, I would have enjoyed my week because you learn so much by travelling, the people have been so kind here, the course was a new challenge to me as I never played a course like this before » he continued.

The final round’s turning point was when Mohr made an eagle on the 17 to seal the victory. « I used a 3 iron. It was 228, into the wind, I knew it would go the right distance if I hit it right in the middle, it was just whether it would hold in the wind and fortunately, it did » he explained. « It went pretty much where I was aiming and It was a relief to see it because I could not see it finish. Someone said it hit the pin. I was looking at the leaderboard, I always want to know where I am with the leaderboard, and Maxime Radureau was tied with me at 5 under. I was looking at pulling off probably one of the best shots I’ve ever had at the right time » he continued.

Mohr made an eagle, 4 birdies and 3 bogies in the final round.

« Turning around and seeing my friends on the 18, knowing that I had done it, it was great » Mohr concluded.

With today’s victory, Marcus Mohr now leads the Order of Merit, the Alps Tour official season ranking.

During his thank you speech, Marcus Mohr thanked everyone involved in the tournament organization and particularly the greenkeepers as Mohr was one of them at the age of 15 working on a golf in England.

Saturday’s weather conditions were sunny and temperatures above 30°C.

The 9th edition of the Open Saint-François has already been confirmed for 2019.

Rising golf stars of the Alps Tour will now travel back to Europe for the Alps de Andalucia at La Monacilla Golf in Huelva, Spain, starting on June 14th.

Spain’s Borda wins maiden victory in Obidos

Spain’s David Borda won the Obidos International Open today at the Guardian Bom Sucesso Golf (Portugal) with a total of -5, one shot ahead of England’s Marcus Mohr.

It was Borda’s first professional win. It was also the first time in its history the Alps Tour held a tournament in Portugal, co-sanctioned by the Portugal pro Golf Tour.

« I’m feeling great, it’s my first victory as a pro, I could not be happier » 31-year-old Borda said. « It was a tough tournament. Yesterday, we played 18 holes in 12 hours, it was a long long day but it was well worth it » he explained.

Yesterday’s second round was disrupted by heavy rain showers that led to a 4h30 interruption. Last night, organisers announced the tournament would be played over 36 holes due to the lack of time to organise a final round.

« I did not play today, I was waiting nervously for the results to come in despite the live scoring not working » Borda said. « I had to wait until the last match to find out I had won » he said.

With today’s victory, David Borda now leads the Order of Merit, the Alps Tour official season ranking.

« Last year, I finished 7th on the Alps Tour’s season ranking, I was 60 points short to enter the Challenge Tour so it was a tough moment. I kept working and finally, it paid off today » Borda concluded.

« It feels nice » Marcus Mohr (ENG), who finished 2nd place overall (-4), said. « Playing all these years in Links golf in England paid off with all the wind and rain we had here » he added. « I feel confortable playing in waterproofs, the greens were really really quick out there. This is a great venue, the golf course is amazing » he concluded.

Portugal’s Joao Carlota turned in the best card of the day (-5) to finish tied for 3rd place overall. Frenchmen Guillaume Cambis and Julien Brun, Michele Ortolani (ITA) and Lars Van Meijel ‘NED) also finished tied for 3rd place.

Weather conditions were overcast most of the day with high winds and temperature in mid 10s.

Next tournament for the rising golf stars of the Alps Tour is the Gosser Open in Austria on May 24th.
